It tells me I'd have to register with the Ubuntu forums before reading that.
Whatever happened to that "open" thing Linux advocates are such champions of?

You deserved it. While it would be nice if Linux was more user friendly its not. You want user friendliness try Windows, Mac OS X or Yellowtab and leave Linux alo0ne.

You have to be a registered user to view that page...
He probably feels like a brave knight of windows showing his fellows how he battled the pagans of linux in the unknown lands of foreign and uncharted forums and the cruel enemy forced him to withdraw, but he never surrendered the yellow, blue, red and green colors of his majesty.
UUUU !!! Look at me !!! I am a lame thread !!![6] -

I must say you are a unpredictable person. One minute you praise Ubuntu and the next you despise it. Which is it?
You should know better than I that Ubuntu isn't meant to be user friendly. Having looked at their wiki, 90 percent of the articles involve opening up a terminal and typing in obscure commands with almost no explanation of whats being typed.

Ubuntu is one of the most user friendly linux distributions out there. If you find that Ubuntu is not user friendly enough for you, than simply stop trying to use linux.

My guess is that winguy395 is just another troll who is using this thread as "bait", i.e. later, when they assume their more infamous form, they will refer to this thread and asked why we agreed.
I for one have found Linux users to be very helpful towards me, and I think that as Linux is based upon a community effort, and is closely tied in with community, I think winguy395 must have done something very provocative in order to get them to annoy him.

See the problem I have is that we told Beer28 awhile ago that Windows zealots do not spam or post Windows questions in Linux forums and do anything lame like troll. To which he said we do as much as Linux community has them. Since then we have had Darth Vista and a couple of "Windows trolls" to appear which makes me question the legitimacy of such fellows or whether they are Beer acting like a jacka$$ or what. I already know DarthVista is Beer himself, whether this guy is the same I dont know.

I wouldnt say they are more helpful. I have gotten plenty of replies to inquirires that say "Go back to Windows noob". The more helpful community is the Apple community when you dodge and work around the religous fantics associated with the platform.

I was quite saddened after reading the thread on the ubuntu forums. I really don't know why people assume that anyone making an argument that goes against the norm is a 'troll'. It is ridiculous.
I can't find a good reason for that /bin /lib /usr stuff either (at least on a dynamic system like a desktop). But hey, I guess that complexity can be hidden given reliable package management, and comprehensive GUI tools. (Neither of which exist at the moment.)
The closed mindedness of the Linux crowd is quite depressing I must say. And frankly I'm getting a bit annoyed by the Linux nuts. -

A common, and might I add sound, advice in these circumstances;
Stay away from the nuts.
(Be it Linux, Microsoft, Religious, ...)

Not saying I despise it, never even made that comment. I do think its one of the better Linux distributions on the market. Perfect? No, but one of the better. Definbately better than OpenSUSE and SLED which seems to get a lot of praise.

Aren't you people tired of this endless debate:| Back in my freshman year at the univeristy I whitnessed countless hours (sometimes until 3-4 in the morning) of linux vs windows wars and I get iritated when somebody posts something like this with the obvious intention of starting a fire. I had friends that almost started a fight because of this stupid SO war !!! Common...we can do better than that !!!

Can you paste some of the transcript of the thread here? Or summarize it? I don't feel like registering over at the Ubuntu forums...

I guess the whole argument comes down to is...
If Mac OSX can set Finder on top of /home and Linux is so customizable, why isn't Linux setting Windows on top of /home and making it cheaper than OSX? -

You could try BugMeNot. There is even a Firefox extension that will automatically fill in password fields for you.
I read the OP's thread and I didn't see anything that justified getting the thread locked. Of course, there are plenty of people in the Linux crowd who take pride in screaming "TROLL!!!" whenever someone is critical of their favorite operating system.
