Right now, http://msdn.microsoft.com and downloads.microsoft.com are coming up with HTTP:500's. Passport was down a while ago. And other microsoft sites have been going up and down all weekend. I've noticed that
their favicon changed too. What's going on?
....
And why hasn't slashdot picked up on it yet? I figured it would have been the top story of the day by now.

Actually they've changed their favicons for 3 weeks now. http://www.istartedsomething.com/20061012/microsoft-favicon/
I'm suspecting their new site is going to go live.

I havent had any problems getting to Microsoft.com this weekend.
And an HTTP 500 is an internal server error, since the site is in ASP.NET it was probaly just that, an internal error somewhere in the code. -
They used to have an ugly Windows 98-esque page icon, and it appeared on other sites such as Windows SuperSite. I've noticed this for quite a while now (probably a couple of weeks).

You can still view the new site in development phase:
