Thanks for the heads up.

This is the Visual Studio I have been waiting for.
Expect to buy it in early 2008.

Thanks Charles! Most of those "highlights" look like new stuff in the framework, not in Orcas - why do they still mix the two (or am I confused?)

I don't follow... The Framework enables VS innovations... There's a natural coupling here...

I agree there is coupling, however VS uses the fx but the reverse is not true. They call out those techs like they are Orcas innovations. The new DataTime (for example) has nothing to do with Orcas, only the framework. It is not a big deal, just struck me odd as I did not see any Orcas specific innovations (i.e. integrated UI for WF and WPF designer) on that page, only fx stuff. -

Agree.
Is there a new CTP of .net Framework 3.5 or 4.0 supporting LINQ available to play with the Visual Studio CTP?
The latest I am aware of is:
The LINQ Framework: What's New in the May CTP

May be it is a good time for Jason to give a brief update!

I wished the CTP would not be in the form of a virtual machine. Why cant it be a stand alone install.

I'm glad it is. Having been through the pain of Sql Server CTPs, keeping it all isolated is great, and not having to setup my own Virtual Server, even better!
-
I'll install it, after I re-image my laptop... For some reason, Office 2003 is dying randomly, and frequently.
-
I'm trying to get some time to learn all the functionality of VS2005, and now a CTP? do you know when is going to be released?
-

We demand screenshots! -
LOL W3bbo.. YES! Gotta have screenshots!
I don't like the idea of being forced to use Virtual PC to test out the new CTP. My only good PC is running Vista RC2 and the other two computers I have are a Celeron 466 and Celeron 633. I doubt running that on either of those is going to work.
Seeing that VPC is not supported on Vista, I can't get to the CTP.
Bad move on the teams' part to do it this way. -

There are allot of add-ons like a ctp of august en the entity model diagrame designer. The only thing I hate is that they support only 1:1 till know. -

Does not work for me.
Edit:
When I try to start the instance, I get a popup message:
"The parent virtual hard disk has been deleted or has been moved from its previous location. Please select the new location of the parent virtual hard disk.
E:\VPC\TimeBombedBase\Base01.vhd"
There is not "Base01.vhd" to find.
Or is there?
When I click on Cancel I get:
"Virtual PC was not able to create an undo disk.
Please verify that you have sufficient privileges to write to the virtual machine configuration directory, and that the physical hard disk containing your virtual machine configuration is not full. If the virtual machine is attached to a differencing virtual disk, please verify that the virtual hard disk's parent was not modified without using the differencing virtual hard disk."
My disk is not full, and I have the 'privileges'.
I am running Virtual PC 2007.
There is yet another download necessary, that contains the missing virtual hard disk.
Downloading now... -
Is there an installer I can download instead? I can't use the VPC image since VPC doesn't run on Windows XP x64 and VMWare's converter tool says it can't read the virtual disk.

+1 for an installable version - Visual Studio 2005 isn't too zippy at the best of times, let alone under emulation....
