I think the ribbon is overused though, everyones trying to get a snatch at using it, i must admit i recently used it for a university project as well, but i found that it addressed one of our concerns so well, here's a screenshot of it:

We were required to create a tablet app which focused a bit more on usability, after a few usability tests on existing apps like journal and one note we realised trhe kids who are in grade 5 and 6 had problems with using the stylus and also accessing drop-down buttons, as a result i decided the ribbon would be both aesthetically pleasing as well as appealing for the kids also simultaneously addressing the usability issues the kids faced. The application does more, but the main highlight was usability.
I must thank the creators of the ribbon, good work!
