you know.. in germany you might be sentenced to paying a couple of hundred dollars to the airline, couple of hundred dollars to the flight attendant maybe some to the state and the airline would not allow you to board one of their planes.. i highly suspect that you 'd only go to prison for that (a short period of time i.e. < 2 years) if you repeatedly "had fun" on the plane.
it always amazes me how accustomed US citizens are to this rather harsh law.. even using a piece of law that wasn't even designed for that case (which applied by the judge in this case would be illegal in germany, too..)..
don't take this so much as an offence. i really don't mean to critize the US citizens. for european citizens often times it is just astonishing to which extent things are prosecuted in the US (even if in this particular case you can expect a very mild  outcome - at least i hope so).
