Going into PDC 05 I had heard of and played with WCF and WPF and Vista. And probably one of the most talked about items I hadn't seen much on was LINQ. I was totally caught off guard by Workflow though. For each person I suppose there is some different
"new thing". What about PDC 05 caught you off guard or made you go WOW.
Any predictions on new stuff for PDC 07? What are you most looking forward to seeing more about? I'm mildly excited about VS2007 and Longhorn Server. I say mildly, because I'm cluelessa bout what might be in them.
I'd like to see a big push on Powershell and how GUI is built on it. I hear about GUI on Powershell, like for Exchange 07, but never see any articles on it. Maybe we'll see some Vista R2 stuff.

With all the Microsoft product releases in 2007, it would not surprise me if Microsoft did not have a PDC in 2007.
Only if Microsoft delays the release of Visual Studio and Windows Server Longhorn to late 2007 or early 2008 does it make sense to have a PDC to ramp up to these releases.
If Microsft releases both products in September or early October with multi-city launch events, I do not see the need for a PDC 2007.
If both products are ready for RTM in June, they should launch them then and have the PDC in September 2007
The key question is when will Windows Server Longhorn be ready.
Your guess is as good as mine.
I suspect that both Windows Server Longhorn and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 will ship together with Visual Studio and .net Framework 3.5/4.0 in the fall or at the very latest January 2008.
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 will ship in May or June.
Any Microsoft employee care to weigh in on the subject?
Remember, they are listening.

According to Bob Muglia, senior vice president of servers and tools at Microsoft, the current release timeframe for Server "Longhorn" is the second half of 2007[2].

Spain—Microsoft plans to ship Windows Server "Longhorn" and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 at the same time, expected to be in the second half of next year.
The Redmond, Wash., software maker plans to release another Longhorn CTP (Community Technology Preview) later this year, followed by another CTP in early 2007 and then Longhorn Beta 3 by the middle of the year.
"The current plan is to ship Longhorn and Vista SP1 simultaneously, as it is one source code base. So, if you follow that model, you have to ship them both at roughly the same time," Bob Muglia, Microsoft's senior vice president for server and tools, told eWeek at the company's TechEd IT Forum here.
The server code will be feature-complete in early 2007, said Muglia, who put to rest speculation that Longhorn would be officially renamed Vista Server, as it is referred to on some Microsoft staff blogs.

I am hoping Microsoft will release and launch Visual Studio, Expression Studio, .net Framework 3.5 or 4.0 and Windows Server Longhorn in July 2007 in which case there should be a PDC 2007.
So, whatever, whenever!

I think you are absolutely right, but hope springs eternal.

I think you're missing the point. PDC has never been about current technologies or product; that's what TechEd is for.
PDC is always about future stuff.
