PHILADELPHIA - An unknown number of new George Washington dollar coins were mistakenly struck without their edge inscriptions, including "In God We Trust," and made it past inspectors and into circulation, the U.S. Mint said Wednesday.

We've had them off and on for a long time. They've just never caught on over here. -

Why don't strip-clubs go for the Casino approach, you enter and trade your dollar-coins for special redeemable paper tokens?

In Canada we have one and two dollar coins calle loonies and toonies. They made the switch and never made paper versions ever again which is exactly what the US mint should do also.
Taking the christian stuff off their money would be sensible too but you know that will never happen in our lifetime. -
I hate change in my pocket, I prefer bills. Also, In God We Trust is not just Christian. Jews worship God, Muslims worship God

I knew someone would say that and I agree but in reality we know that most people don't think of it that way. -

But not atheists/agnostics, and there are several polytheist religions, and deists don't necessarily believe in a divine being.
Wasn't most of the "God" stuff added in the Joe "Death to godless communism!" McCarthy-era anyway?

No, it was first put on the 2 cent coin in 1864. http://www.ustreas.gov/education/fact-sheets/currency/in-god-we-trust.shtml

Just a bit of related coin trivia: the Euro coins do not have an inscription on the side, except for the 2 Euro coins. As you may know, each country made their own coins; one side is the same in all countries, the other is unique; it doesn't matter where the coin is from though, all are accepted in all participating countries. The Dutch 2 Euro coin has the inscription "God zij met ons" (God is with us) just like the old Guilder coins.
As an aside, since we're only a small country with a small number of people, there are relatively very few Dutch Euro coins. As time went on, the coins mingled throughout Europe and now I have few Dutch coins anymore. Most coins I see nowadays are German and French, which is not surprising.
The bills are everywhere the same, in case you're wondering.

Over here, we can track our one dollar bills. Can't do that for these athiestic coins, however. Although I heard a story a while back about tracking chips being tested in coins...in Canada I think.

You overlook alloy signatures, Corn... spy stuff abounds.

I may be the only one who thinks this, but I really hate the images on the euro bills. I mean, for the images on the money of a place that is the cradle of modern civilisation and western culture, offering centuries of amazing art and inventions, we choose, and I kid you not, windows and bridges. Non-existant windows and bridges.
And what is up with those grey, washed out colors? We used to have such bright and colorful bills. -

We shoulda called it the dubloon and put 2 loons on it, instead of calling it a toonie... -
