Great post, I think the opinions in that post is shared by a lot of members in the tech community.

Why people care what zealots says? I have read a lot of comments that they are not using Linux because "Linux community has so many zealots". I think it's worst reason ever.
Here in C9 is huge amount of Windows zealotry and Linux, Google and Apple bashing but that doesn't change my opinions about those products a tiniest bit. Heh, why should they..?
. Of course is interesting to read well argued thoughts and opinions.
And it's useless to whine about trolls when troll-threads are >100 post long. I think it only shows that people actually loves trolling and bashing.

Commitements are evil, I hate being reliant on anyone but myself.

Unless you can turn them off or deflate them. [A] -

The "physical" bit does not depend on having an actual relationship.

why are you picking on us the linux and mac guys. If you cant get ndiswrapper or x working correctly it may be time for you to give up on Linux.

I'm more amused by the fact that in order to get wireless working under linux you have to use Windows drivers. That really must smart.

Nothing wrong with either OS, it's the zealots that's the problem. I'm guessing you were offended by the post, says a lot about what you consider yourself to be.
Edit: Sorted out some moronic grammar

Reminds me a school who used to kick people out of their sports games if they would boo the other team. Next we are going to have sports games where no one is allowed to cheer or boo, since they may offend someone and everyone is the winner in the end.
I go by the dictionary definition, "a person who is fanatical and uncompromising in pursuit of their religious, political, or other ideals."
That pretty much sums it up, someone who actively refuse to listen or accept any form of criticism regarding their own beliefs. Another word that would fit in pretty well, I suppose, is follower. Someone who goes to great lengths to deny anything that might compromise their stance.
Just look at this board, this is a MS-centric place yet we have people who both use and enjoy software not related to MS. We also have an open policy towards people who criticize the products discussed here and some might even say that we encourage critical thinking.
There's a difference between criticizing and bashing, the biggest being that the former actually comes with suggestions on how to improve. The latter just stating that something sucks and neglecting to mention why.

sirhomer wrote:Why was my last thread locked? It seems no one was actually blatantly bashing Linux, perhaps any discussion of alternative operating systems (even for criticism!) is becoming less acceptable here.
It looks like foxbar's inane ravings put a lock on that thread. There are numerous examples of threads discussing alternate OS:es that haven't been locked. As long as the discussion stays above a certain "level", meaning no senseless bashing or insults, it won't be locked. I'd like to see more proper discussions and debates regarding operating systems where advantages and dis-advantages are discussed without the thread derailing and turning into personal "flame fests".

Another random thought on GPL vs BSD licensing.

Honestly, I think your comments on the gpl3 are off. Of course you don't have to like it but please don't lie about how horrible it is compared to the gpl2, when you seem to like BSD licenses regardles. It's a bug fix and wants to make derivative source available vs. other software licenses so of course it's long as hell. Wouldn't it be nice if companies (MS, NOvell, TIVO, Sveasoft, SCO) stopped trying to find loopholes in it, maybe then it could be one page too.
GPL3 also tries to harmonize with other free software licenses as well as allowing people to add clauses like the Affero GPL2 web services one to their software, if they want to.
BTW the gpl3 isn't even done yet. It's delayed thanks to Novell-Microsoft patent promise, of course..

Anytime1 he is a Microsoft guy what do you expect. he knows nothing about Linux or anything but Windows. All he does is come on C9 troll, spam his blog and spread the lies and misinformation that he claimed in his previous posts that he hated. He along with cybermagellan are very untrustworthy and Bill Gates sympathizers. Patents are dead, DRM is dead and unless Microsofft embraces the future that is the GPL Microsoft is dead. If Charles doesnt start banning trolls like rj, cybermagellan and the other trolling Windows fans I truly will quit coming to this forum. Proprietary licenses are the more restrictive the GPL frees us from corporate greed.

How interestingly narrow your viewpoint is when you take comments on the GPL3 as an attack on Linux.
Remind me again why you and your one trick pony is here?
