I've a crazy idea(well not that crazy).
How about an open discussion through 'port 25 OR here' about the whole gpl vs bsd vs closed vs ... issue and what it means.
How about everyone states it's opinion why would open source (the old term*) would or would not:
1: OSS succeed without closed source.
2: closed source would succeed without OSS.
3: open source needs closed source in the market and closed source needs opensource in the market. (an system I favorite)
=======
4: Can I opensource stuff but guarantee they it stay's opensource?
5: What if I want to share something BIG but I don't want to let all other people make it closed source.
6: What if I want to share technology regardless of who adopt it.
7: What about patents, DRM, TCPA, rootkids(sony ?) etc ?
8: What is IP? Should I care? Or not? Should IP be free (like math, only how you use it not?), is an idea patentable? etc... (big thing to me also)
9: <add your question here>
*I mean open source as in gpl , bsd etc not all the derivatives, etc where new terms like 'FOSS' etc exist to counter it.

Oh great; like this won't be a troll magnet
-
1: never
2: never
3: offcourse

4: I would choose gpl if I want everything in my software section 'free', lgpl if I want other people to contribute plugins, libraries etc, MIT if I want my code to flow into other project.
This might be because I value my code
5: LGPL or CDDL
6: MIT or BSD or no license at all(last option might cause problems)
7&8: I don't like patents(most of them can be reproduced by children).
I don't like IP, most of the things I know is because people share knowledge and not keep it behind a vault. TCPA is something evil (at least to me), drm is defectiveby... well at least everyone soon knows how to remove drm(see itunes etc how people copy drm music)
9: euh no questions at the moment
