So I expect to get flamed to death, even here - where the majority have a brain.
But it still made me chortle that an entire book had been written on the subject:
The Unix Hater's Handbook.
I haven't even got that far into it, and i'm nodding... Ah well. Especially funny is the comment about the fact unix isn't suitable for the Mac he's writing the foreward on. (In hindsight a marvellously comedic touch.) Anyway, back to code...

Yeh, I remember that book.
It's pretty funny that these days Unix is held up as the example of everything that is reliable and efficient. Attitudes were very different when unix workstations first appeared. -
Actually I found the book very boring. Mind you that I didn't read much of it.
I guess unix is different nowadays :/
Oh well if you got humorous stuff about it do tell

So why didn't all those millions of eyes in foss community fixed unix (linux) 5 years ago, so that flagship foss product would not suck anymore? [6] -
What was Unix like way back then?
I didnt even start using computers until 1995.

If you're interested in playing around with old unices you should check out simh. It's a PDP emulator and there's even disk-images of Unix V5 and V6 available to mess around with. Great trip into computing history.

GNU means "GNU's Not Unix", which is rms referring to the fact that he will build a Unix-like OS from scratch, without any of the proprietary Unix code in it.
And there's still no sign of it.
The most amusing thing I find about *nix history is the Thompson hack in the compiler when you compiled a logon executable.

Groan!!!!
And to think that I remember when Unix was... Oh, never mind. At my age, I hardly remember anything, any more. [C]

I remember AIX used to initialize allocated memory with the hex value 0xDEADBEEF. With a debugger, this made it easy to find uninitialized pointers.
I always thought that was a riot...
