I'm leaving for a few months because I'm moving to another city where I won't have internet access (since I will be there just for a few months I can't get an adsl connection because it requires a yearly subscription).
Unfortunately there is a group of people trying to push stories with deceiving titles/descriptions each day, they've been doing this at least 2-3 dozen of times, and without nobody debunking those FUD stories I'm almost completely sure they will all reach the
front page so beware of the FUD storm because this time it's going to be huge.
See you all.

A place without internet... What's that?

Trust me, places like that exist; I was just out of the country for nearly 4 months (thus why I haven't been very active lately) and I am still getting into the swing of things after getting back.
I somehow managed to get work done offline, but it wasn't pretty!

We won't miss your Digg fud stories. -
Don't you think that all this digging is slightly Quixotic behaviour? I mean that literally too.

Unfortunately you'll miss them because I've bought another SIM card that has UMTS coverage in the area (and it works but only in EDGE mode however that's enough fast for me to use remote desktop).
They're really getting desperate because they can't find anything interesting, now they started posting sarcastic phrases out of context:
Newly-leaked Antitrust Memo: Bill Gates Admits COM/OLE Blocks P/L
Bill Gates: "Internet studio has taken an approach of putting onto HTML pages the most ugly Microsoft garbage ever seen since COM/OLE programming in C++ was declared a success in order to block language invocation."
Really, this time I'm not commenting on these ones just to let the diggers realize how those guys are organized to push that crap to the frontpage. This is getting more and more ridicolous each day!
OMFG. Why do you even care? It's not like it affecting you and if it is that's something you need to sort out personally. By bringing the stories here you're only contributing to it's spread.
You're spreading FUD, please stop it. -

If you see the submitted stories of this guy you'll see that it really is. -

No, actually i'm contributing to let people realize that it's FUD. Or you prefer those stories to spread on the interwebs like this story? (yes, this story was picked by dozens of websites even if completely untrue because nobody debunked that crap)
ddewbofh wrote:You're spreading FUD, please stop it.
Actually I'm doing the opposite by debunking the FUD. -

You haven't debunked anything by spreading it here. -

Mhh anything?
http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=292508#292508
could you please paste what I wrote in that story? especially the "I would have understood if she stated "Vista is less secure with UAC disabled" or "Vista is not a lot more secure than XP with UAC disabled" but saying that "Vista is less secure than XP with UAC disabled" is a plain lie." part.
http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=291757 what about this one?

You forget who visits this page, we already know the truth. The average skill level around here is much, much higher than on many other places on the interweb and the only thing you add by posting it here is yet another forum for it to spread on.
What it causes is hostility and irritation which ultimately might drive people away from here and if so you've contributed to driving people away from an MS-driven forum and that seems to me like the exact opposite result from what you're trying to accomplish. Or is the goal actually to drive people away from here? -

Spread where? If the people already know the truth then they wouldn't care about those threads.

If there were people so sensitive in here then I'm sure they already left this place after reading sirhomer, corona_coder and foxbar threads.
I believe however that you missed the point: if a humour story about VISTA WRITTEN 15% IN INTERCAL that did not reach the digg frontpage, was still posted by dozens of websites that took it as true and the author itself had to debunk that story, what do you think that would happen to a story that reaches the digg frontpage? It will get everywhere, here included.
Remember the "MS considers dropping office for mac to hurt apple story?".
It was posted on digg, then it reached the digg frontpage (then removed because people discovered that it was biased FUD), then it reached slashdot, then it was posted by macworld and pcworld (and dozens of other websites and blogs) until thurrot revealed how that the story was spinned. And then it reached C9 anyways, "thanks" to corona_coder.
If nobody debunks the FUD it's going to get everywhere, because the world is full of MS-haters that don't know anything about the subjects in question and take those FUD stories for true and post them on their websites spreading them.
Posting them on C9 before wouldn't change anything, the FUD will still get here, in a way or in the other and it's better to have an unbiased version of the story posted by me, rather than the original FUD version posted by some other guys (sometimes with additional "spin"). -

And that, my friend, is why we don't need these threads here.
We can tell truth from fiction. -

Too bad that they get here anyway. If we talk about the newly-leaked FUD campaign both of the stories that reached the digg frontpage were also submitted here.
One by corona_coder, another by sirhomer.
As I said you have to chose between me posting them with an unbiased take on them, or corona_coder/sirhomer/foxbar/whatever submitting them (sometimes with additional bias turning the discussion in a complete flamebait). They're reaching C9 anyways. -
Cescotto,
It doesn't matter if the FUD reaches C9, because people can tell FUD when they see/hear/smell it.
Also, these stories have NO effect on the vast majority of Internet users. Many, many people haven't even heard of Digg, let alone visit the site.
I am a heavy Internet user, a computer programmer, etc. and I have been there exactly once.
Most people don't care what language anything is written in, etc. You have to realize that hanging around C9/Digg/"any tech site" is like sitting at a bar and thinking everyone in the world is an alchoholic/drinker. -

If digg is the 19th most visited website in the US then probably somebody heard of it. Almost any story that reaches the digg frontpage in fact gets posted on hundred of news sites, blogs, etc. If you won't see it on digg probably you'll see it somewhere else.

Then we have too many "alcoholics" here, because I see here many, many stories that were made popular by digg posted also here on C9. -
cescotto,
Digg is just a news site were trolls flourish on the Linux/Unix and Microsoft sub-sections.
Its time to step away from the computer and live life.
I shall do the same soon enough.
