Of course every geek loves Star Wars, it timeless Sci Fi.
Serenity is a good story well acted.
So do you think Serenity is ? Better than even Star Wars ?

best of all time??
holy shamoly
i even liked the butterfly effect more than that..
matrix 5th?
2001 8th?
* i think the voters were all very young

Serenity was okay, but it wasn't exactly going to threaten The Ice Pirates or Battle Beyond the Stars (best Star Wars clone ever) as the best sci-fi film of all time
-
I'd probably put Serenity at #2... Serenity is a good movie, but it doesn't quite measure up to Star Wars.
-
I think 'all time' meant "that you can remember from the past 3 years" for a lot of readers.
It was pretty good, and a lot better than I suspected, but come on, All Time? Have these people not heard of Star Wars, Blade Runner, Forbidden Planet? Plan 9? -

I haven't watched Forbidden Planet or Plan 9. Blade Runner was a little too bizarre for me to count it as a "favorite", but it was a pretty good movie (as movies go). -

Serenity was the only really recent movie on the top 10 list, besides, they only asked 3000 people. Try and get that many to agree on ANYTHING.
Blade Runner and Forbidden planet were both on the list, along with Alien, Terminator, 2001, etc...
I also think I keep a distinction between, favorite, best, and most important.
I consider 2001 to be one of the most important, but Star Wars will always be my favorite.
-
I thought Serenity was rubbish. I honestly forced myself to sit through the second half as everyone had told me it was so great that I figured it had to get better. How wrong I was.

Oh, absolutely. I consider Blade Runner to be a far better movie than Plan 9 (heh), but Plan 9 is much higher on my 'favorites' list. And yeah, 2001 is obviously one of the most important SF movies, but it's extremely low on my 'favorites' list.
But yeah, the list is apparently about 'best' movies, and I just can't reconcile that with Serenity beating all those other titles. Favorites? Sure. But best? -
Me and my wife really liked the Series it was based on: Firefly. Wished it wouldn't have been cancelled!!
-
I loved Firefly, got it on DVD. Went to see Serenity twice, got that on DVD too.
I still wouldn't say it's the best ever, though. -

If I remember correctly that's the movie I watched 10 minutes and then stopped because it sucked so much. I think however that the trailer was good (or misleading...)
-
I liked Event Horizon and 2001. Haven't seen Serenity: What's it about?
Edit: Naaah! Isn't one of the guys, Sven's old avatar? -
short answer : no not by a long shot...
The best movie all time is really hard to call. There is a lot to choose from.

Don't watch Serenity before watching the Firefly series. The movie basically acts as the series' ending... -
littleguru wrote:Edit: Naaah! Isn't one of the guys, Sven's old avatar?
Yes he is. That's Wash, one of my favourite characters (and consequently one of the saddest bits of the movie).
Serenity (and Joss Whedon's style in general) is quite peculiar, so it's natural not everyone would like it (if they did, Firefly would not be cancelled
).
Note that while I wouldn't say Serenity is the best movie ever, I would say it's better than Star Wars. I don't think Star Wars is particularly good (I do like them, but I wouldn't say they were great). Star Wars was revolutionary for its time and ground-breaking certainly, but definitely not one of the best movies ever. But then I've always been more of a Star Trek fan anyway. -
Follow Paolo's advice.
My wife and I watched the entire Firefly series this past weekend, after checking the DVDs out from our local public library.
We did see Serenity first, but will watch it again after this marathon.
...and I did put Sven's old avatar up in my mind after a few episodes of Firefly. Swear I thought that's what he looked like without the long hair...
I don't think either the series or the movie are any 'best' category, but for my effort my wife is going to check out the 'Battlestar Galactica' original series. I always avoided it because I considered the costumes as cheesy as they could be.
The Fifth Element was a fun movie. Would that it had a preceeding series to flesh it out...

+5 for mentioning "Ice Pirates"
