Yes, it was removed in Vista. Given that it was effectively crippled in XP SP2 and was rapidly becoming a spam mechanism anyway, I'd say that was no bad thing.

Spam... ?

means? that it will be available in later releases of the OS or in SP (with fix, or something...)?
I agree it was good feature... though... and, I still don't get it... the proper reason behind disabling this functionality...

Turn off the firewall on XPSP2 and turn on the messenger service someday. You'll see what he means by spam.
Constant, endless spam messages-- whether or not Internet Explorer's open. It's fun!
It probably won't be added again-- as it's been rendered almost completely useless. -

... but I have a XP machine as a main internet proxy server and firewall is disabled in it and messenger services is on. I disabled it before and I have turned it on a month before, so I can send messages to that machine, if anybody is sitting there will respond back.. I haven't seen any problem from that...
anyway... sorry... I still don't get it.

I've seen the spam. When I setup a very old laptop with Windows 2000, I saw the popups within an hour of connecting to an unprotected network.
I don't think net send will ever be back, the service is completely gone in Windows Vista. -
I have also seen this NET SEND spam. Glad they removed it...

What practical use does NET SEND still have nowadays, anyway?

Also seen the NET SEND spam on a sp0 install of XP about 4 years ago. Think I got a message selling me viagra..

Net Send was a great idea back in 1983 when the protocol was invented. It worked great on private networks.
It has no business being there on machines connected to the Internet, so it's history.
