ill go first.. ![]()
First of all - I can remember being at Artist Tree - my first co. when the Internet was unknown to reg folks. A good friend Mike - the tech guy - came into shop one day going on about this thing called the Internet. "you just need a node" bla bla .. he should
have had an obe won cape on
We had no idea what he was talking about. We did Newspapers. Humane Society, Exposure, Hamilton Tiger-Cats (The Roar)
So - me being musician turned computer newbie
/ designer - im all over it:
"Who, what where when..."
Next day - we get an account with "inforamp.net"
We are now... inforamp.net/~artisttree (whatever that means)
We are online and all is good.
Dont use it ever for month.. lose account. turn account back on. Make our first - all centered on gray webpage...
Cuts to current time:
Way way way later...um ya internet is alot different than when you first saw it and had no idea what it was
Cut to the chase - so it goes and so it goes and so Nick Lowes... finally forums start being more than 3 people asking about drivers (bbs)
people are making forums left right and center (asp)
..one of which was maxwebportal. (ive talked about this in other posts)
that was my first forum - and i posted alot and tons of pics and ideas for the forum... haha you can imagine. Anyway - everyone liked the stuff - but nothing got done - so i knew i needed a new forum.
All of a sudden - c9 came into existence - like by magic - and ... been here to this day...posting crazy stuff like this.
What's your Coffeehouse Story (first forum to here)
?

I started out a graphic design major way back in the day (before PCs were part of the equation). I moved over to computer aided design (in its infancy) since I loved computers / drawing and the money was good.
I did industrial design for about eight years and gradually ended up the guys that automated the software and kept the cad boxes humming.
Years later I now mainly code and do software architecture / analyst stuff. I enjoy the C9 videos and podcast like Hanselminutes. I get the most out of dev’s talking about their interest and the going deeper stuff.
The forum chronology kind of goes like
Arstechnica Forums – (Built the first Primordial Soup Team webpage)
Microsoft Forums
GotDotNet – (won an x-box from Terrarium)

My story is very short: I searched news on a new version of the IE (which is IE7 now). A google search showed up a post in the coffeehouse. I clicked it - and voilá

This is my first community - I have never been in one before. -

Now, please leave
haha!

Short version: saw Channel 9 link on home page of msdn under communities. In Techoff, asked a question about Monda vs MSBuild (both in beta, I think) got a response from MS guy working on MSBuild and I was hooked. Moved from Codeproject forums (which were getting slow) to here.

I found C9 on google so I came here to post a techoff question
-
I've known about Channel 9 for some time -- I stopped by for the vids every once in a while -- but I didn't start regularly posting until I decided to finally look into that RSS thing everyone was talking about. Well, actually I knew all about RSS, but I just didn't do much with it other than a few key feeds on my homepage.
Of late I've been experimenting with RSS readers, and have decided to subscribe to the RSS feeds of tech forums, including Channel 9.
That's 'bout it. -
I was unemployed around 2004, and was working as a pizza delivery boy. One day, I had a delivery to make to a house in Hydepark, which is an upper class neighborhood of Cincinnati. It was a long drive from my pizzaria, and if I didn't get it there in 30 minutes, it would come out of my already small paycheck.
Luckily, I knew a shortcut and got it there in 25 minutes. Sweatily, I hauled the 2 large pies up the steps of a 3 stories house. Damn, wish I could afford to live here. Before I could ring the doorbell, a beautiful woman opened the door. She was a bit older but was in very good shape. I tried to keep eye contact, so not to seem too obvious that I was glaring at her heaving bossom.
She said she didn't actually have the cash to pay for the pizzas, and whether there was something else she could do for the pies...
....
Wait... that's a different story... Honestly, I don't remember how I got to C9. -
haha keep going!

ROFL...
I honestly can't remember either... -

I came here after a friend at school told me about the famous Obane thread. I happened to like Channel 9, so after he linked me to it again I decided to join.

A little history:
Early on, the C9 team thought a place for general discussion would be cool (of course there were debates as to the usefulness and practicality of this - who would monitor it? We didn't want to police anything! Freedom and power to the people!
Etc...). Jeff
came up with the name Coffeehouse and Bryn and I added it as our second forum (the first being the Videos forum). Techoff came later and was established as a place for Niners to, well, techoff.
Besides the trolling and flames (comes with the territory I guess - this is a very open community with little barrier to entry...) Coffeehouse has become our flagship community forum.
Thank you, Niners!
Keep on posting,
C -
How did I get here?
Well that is pretty obvious.
How did the Coffeehouse get here?
That is an interesting story. We were discussing as a team the plans for Channel 9. Back then I was a pretty active member then of the http://TivoCommunity.com forums. One thing I loved about those forums was that they had an off topic general discussion forum where folks could sound off on a broad range of topics. Charles and I felt we should have something like this for Microsoft and the Coffeehouse was formed.
I am not spending as much time here lately posting as I should. I do come in and check in on the action each day and will post more.
Thanks everyone for being here. The last 3 years have been amazing.

Same here, but i came to the CoffeeHouse to ask a question about programming. I got about, 13,000 hits in my first post, which i dont think is bad for a first. Otherwise: my daily trawling on MSW turned up C9. I've been here ever since and i plan to stay here for quite a long time.
Also... the pizza story rocks!

Short post as well as my first

My friend does "The DFO Show" and he pointed me in this direction when he uploaded the first episode, I;ve been back daily ever since, but have only just created an account.
So this could also be my "Hello, World" post
