You can already get CTP's of Orcas Express.
I downloaded VB Express yesterday and it didn't install, so i shall try them another time.
Looking forward to vweb dev

Microsoft realizes the world is becoming flatter. How do you get great devs on your platform if you do not have a free version like the rest of the market. In fact they trump that. Its hard to feel limited by the Express version in your first year. I compare my experience with companies like Borland and Sun who have my mind half hearted offerings for the free.

Re: Free Express Editions
Go here, or here from the "express" gaffer here
It's folly to expect an entry level programmer to shell out £500 for Visual Studio, consequently I would conjecture that it's highly unlikely that their entry level software would ever be chargeable.
A great deal of effort is going into "free" learner centre. -
actually I was not talking about the express editions, I am taking about these

When VS and SQL Server 2005 came out, Microsoft gave a free copy of VS 2005 Standard and SQL Server Standard to everyone who attended the launch training session.
When Office 2007 came out, they gave a free copy of Office 2007 Professional to anyone who attended the launch training session.
In the last two years, I've gotten over a thousand dollars in free software just for going to training I had already planned to attend. I like this trend, and wish for it to continue.
