Hi guys,
I am planning to get a notebook and need some input. I just saw the T61 from lenovo. But right now they just have 14.1.

(the first system on the list; Part Number:
766416U )
I was just wondering if 14.1 would be fine for doing some vs.net programming or would you go for 15.1??
btw anyone have idea about nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M . Does it support DX10 ![]()
one more thing . How is this resolution WXGA+ TFT 1440x900 .
thanks

I personally bought a 15.4" one especially for Visual Studio. The wide screen is heaven for applications like that.
My resolution is 1280x800, so 1440x900 should be fine. But I'd seriously consider a widescreen, if I were you. -
Exactly - I have a 19" and even thats too small for all my app deving. Which is why im going to get another screen
that will also help with my debugging = step through on one screen view on other etc.
Go biiiiig! Or go better - tablet

A 19" laptop with an extra screen doesn't sound very portable.

It's a desktop replacement.
A 14" laptop is no problem for coding, as long as the thing has a widescreen and a decent resolution, you should be fine... you could always get an external monitor, if you think it hasn't enough space.

thanks for the tips. I guess I will wait for the 15 inch screens. 17 would be too big

More important than size of screen is can it support dual monitors. My laptop does. Unless you have a desktop home based pc than game on:) Widescreen is a must either way.

Depends on the resolution frankly. I've been doing .NET and native Win32 work on a 14.1" Lenovo for years. Literally: a T40 and now a T60p.
In both cases, however, I had the 1400x1050 screen. Maximize VS to full screen and it's good to go.
At least that my take on it... resolutions and screen sizes are always subjective

I've had a similar experience with ThinkPads. I just maximized VS and used ALT+TAB for everything else.
That being said, you can't beat having multiple monitors. For me, when I develop on a single screen (unless it's gigantic), my productivity is lower than when I use dual (or triple!) monitors. -
Personally I'd like to see a 13.3" screen with 1440X900 resolution and a tablet with 2 gigs of that cache memory on board (Santa Rosa chipset), 4 gigs of ram and a 7200 RPM hard drive too...
Oh and good graphics, not built in crap, 802.11N Draft 2.0 compatible wireless, and Gigabit ethernet.
Oh and most importantly: A control key on both sides of the space bar so that I can touch type. It's imparative to have it on both sides...
If someone would build that Laptop, they'd have my money in a heartbeat.... -

If you can deal with 0.8" more of widescreen, then the T61p is your man. It's out, it's currently "25% off" in the US, it can be configured with DX10 Nvidia Quadro NVS 140...and even has a built-in camera.
