Has anyone here spent any time in building 20?
I am looking for any 'personal tips' that might help me maximise my trip over next week - places to eat, places to avoid, things I should definitely do (Home of the future?) etc.
It's going to be a busy week but I am really looking forward to immersing myself in all the latest stuff:
LINQ
ORCAS
WPF
CIDER
SILVERLIGHT
VSTO
WCF,RSS,REST,AJAX
WWF
I am staying at the local Homestead (15805 NE 28th Street) - looks close enough to be able to walk to Building 20 - can anyone confirm?

Yes, Homestead is on the SouthWest corner of the campus, across a small street from Microsoft. You will walk due North up the street or through the parking lots until you pass soccor fields and see bldg. 20. It is a one-story bldg. that is colored grey I think.
I went to the Asian market, also on foot, bought a live dungenous crab one night and boiled it up in the room, another night I got Alaskan scallops and a ribeye steak and cooked it on the gas grill on the Homestead property. That was really good.
Downtown Seattle is fun, but a long way from MS campus. You will likely be taken to the MS company store where you can purchase stuff at employee discounted rates.
Have a great time. C9 is in bldg 18, I think, and they'd welcome a visit.

If you can, we (and the Ch9 crew) should have lunch together sometimes.

Ian, I'm in Building 18. Give me a shout and I'll head over to 20 to have lunch or something. We should include other Niners as Paolo mentioned.

Absolutely! Lunch w/ Ian in PAC! Count me in (if I'm welcome
). -
I wanna join in too...

Excellent. I'll bring my 3D camera along! (yes, geeky, bordering on nerdy .. and proud .!).
Seriously, can I just walk up to building 18 and knock on the door?
(Will I get a Channel 9 guy or is that just asking too much?)

Walk into Building 18 and have the receptionist call me. What day should we plan on this. If we keep it to lunch time, then most of us will be around (that is, not in meetings or interviews).

EDIT: 9 Guys will be given to you. Perhaps you could take a handful (well, a couple armfuls of them for Niners in your close proximity at home in the UK?) -
Yes lunchtime is good, and I guess any day suits me - though maybe Monday I should try and hang out with the other guys on the course, how does Tuesday sound? (I am training through till Thursday but am also around on the Friday- with no plans other than to pursue more geeky endevours).
All this and 9'ers too. I can't wait!
Is there anything I can bring with me from the UK? (PG Tips or the like?) -
Tuesday lunch works for me!
P.S. What are PG tips? -
We always had PG Tips when I was growing up. More often than not nowadays we drink Bewleys (My wife is from Dublin) - That is unless I do the shopping, then it's out with the Kerrygold, in with the Lurpack, out with the Bewleys ...
It has to be said that I am lucky/cursed enough to have a Starbucks concession in the building where I work. It started off quite inocently - 1 drink per week, then 2 or 3 a week (just to be sociable). Then I found myself going down there on my own, once a day at first, early morning when there was nobody around. Pretty soon I didn't care about who saw me and I was down there nearly every break, then I would sneak out of meetings ...
I cleaned up a couple of months back and am back on the tea. I have the occasional Starbucks but it's OK, I can handle it (at least thats what I tell myself). -
Jason / Paolo / Joseph, are you in building 18 as well? How can we make sure that we all get together at the same time/place? (I don't have an itinerary yet so i'm not sure what time lunch is).

I'm in building 9, but we have shuttles

By the way, we also have Starbucks kiosks in the cafeteria (normal prices) and Starbucks drip coffee machines in the kitchens (free). -

MS is so huge that you have to use shuttles?
