My G4 iMac died a horrible death, Was taking it to the Apple store to get some warranty work done and I was rear ended at an intersection. I was in the Ford Focus and the LCD panel met the spare and the spare won. I know Apple wont fix it, dont know
if insurance will replace it. So now I have a buttload of extras such as Zip drive, Tape drive, external DVD burner, Cam and the Apple mighty mouse and Apple Pro keyboard. I know the pro keyboard works with Windows but does the mighty mouse? Either way,
I was pretty bummed out. Mostly because the focus was being used due to high gas prices so now its going in the shop. I was cut from the hospital about 2 hrs ago. My left arm hurts like hell, my left knee feels like someone took a sledgehammer to it.
But hey, Im alive.

I see a fun hacking project in your very near future. Why not throw it all in a box and see if you can rustle up a custom mac?

Yes, I've been told it does work with Windows - but uses the standard mouse driver and the ball works only like the vertical scroll

They won't fix it? Even if you pay? That's a bit harsh, if all it needs is a screen (or entire lid section) replacing.
Then again, in geek speak: broken gadget == Excuse to upgrade. -

[C] Agreed. That's a terrible thing to happen to a Focus.... -

True, lucky the Mac was there or it could of done some other damage! -
If you were rear-ended, the other person is at fault. Their insurance should cover any losses that you sustained. Was a police report filed? Have you talked to your insurance (or the other persons insurance) to let them know the damage to your mac?\
BTW - glad to hear that you are ok. Bruises will heal.

Just saw this today on engadget, perhaps a use for that old mac after all.

Yeah. Apple PCs usually have the screen attached unless its a Mac Pro tower or Mac Mini.
If I were a Mac person would have bought an Apple x86 PC long before. Your G4 iMac was equivelent to a modest Pentium 3 system; very obsolete by todays standards. Though I applaud you for keeping to the tradition of the last honest Macintosh--before the transformation to shamless PCs. -
Yeah a police report was filed and his insurance company notified. They are giving me the run around. Like the "Way I see it" series on Starbucks cups the other driver claims its my fault. The way he sees it was that I braked too hard and that Im at fault. The way I saw it was that the light turned red, I braked, he plowed into me destroying leslie (the Mac, I name my computers. Macs are named after women, PC's are named after US cities, Sun Sparcs and any SGI equipment I have is named after demons.) anywho, the law is seeing it my way. The rent a cop learned, this guy will have to learn as well.

It's entirely his fault. That's why people in driving school are tought to keep a safe distance between themselves and the car in front of them. It's exactly to prevent accidents like these when the guy in front has to suddenly brake.
If you rear-end someone it's ALWAYS your fault. The guy in front can't be expected to keep an eye on both things in front and back of him when driving forward. -
Is the pro keyboard you have the greyishblack one? The ones that came with the QS G4s I think...It probably is. I love those keyboards way more than the new Apple pro keyboards. I managed to snag myself an old g4 keyboard and thats what I use with my macs (even my Mac Pro). If you don't have a use for it any more and it's in good condition I'll buy it from you!

I plan to keep it and the mighty mouse.
