A secret Visual Studio 2008 CTP has been released - don't tell anyone...

Microsoft Visual Studio Code Name "Orcas" Team Suite June 2007 Community Technology Preview (CTP)

You are not able to find it when you search Microsoft's download site, but it is there. Use IE to open the page, Firefox does not open it (.mht-file). It is a VPC image.

There are some great new features and a whole lot of bug fixes, looking good for Beta 2!

ScottGu mentioned in a comment on his blog that VS 2008 Beta 2 will be available in the next 3 weeks, so I guess I'll skip this CTP.

Ok,

I am a VB guy, so VB is what I am looking at... I have only played with it for ½ an hour so far...

We've got:

• Full VB LINQ support, grouping, joining etc.
• LINQ To SQL designer improvements:
  • Namespace property for the diagram
  • LINQ table objects no longer inherits from Object (you can override it in a partial class if you want)
    
  • Partial Methods to act as events for inserting/updating/deleting
• DataContext base class has been extended with access to updated/inserted/deleted entities!
• My Extensions (new tab page on project properties)
• The UI seems so much more complete and speedy!

It's pre-beta. You *really* want to use it on a VPC.

Didn't realise it was meant to be "secret" and downloaded it over the weekend (but haven't installed it yet) as several blogs pointed to it.

There's also three "online labs" for WPF/Expression Blend that were posted for VS2008 over the weekend in the form of Word documents. First one covers XAML, the second two cover Blend. Looks to be good stuff.

Have left the URL at home but if anyone's keen to get it and can't find it I'll look it up tonight.

I am considering replacing VS2005 with VS2008 beta 2 to create 2.0 applications, it will be a fun experiment...

I'm going to have a go at working with VS2008 via TFS, I'm hoping I can grab a copy, update the project file and then never check the .csproj back in but just the source files.  Shame it has to upgrade the .csproj so that you can't swap between the two versions when in 2.0 mode.

Apologies. I've only just seen this post and don't have the details on me. Will try and post first thing Monday morning (or Sunday if I end up in the office as seems likely at the moment).

I am on Beta 1 currently and didn't want to download a CTP if we are going to get the next beta in couple of weeks. Can someone (mainly C# programmer) highlight some of the changes that you see in the CTP?
