It has very little to do with operating systems, or even computing in general.Folk who have very little going on in their lives, tend to latch onto something to make them feel either rebellious or superior, or both. Having few friends, then they like to associate
with like-minded rebellious/superior people. Operating systems are the choice battleground because that is something that these people interact with every day. If they had lawns, then we would see threads like this all over the internet:

Well dude .. you just totally suck. You come into this forum with your so called 'facts' about how it is 'a lot less bovver than a hover', and no evidence to back it up, other than the usual marketing crap that the drones at the Free
Grass Foundation puke out.

Face it brother. Your days are numbered. The Stallman OpenLawn is going to eat the Flymo for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I OWN the lawnmower ! I can customise it however I want, and thanks to the GPL (Gardener's Public License), those
changes are available to the Lawnmowing community! See what I got here is a standard OpenLawn engine. I'm free to spend a month hauling my (I need to watch my language) around garden centres, picking up the bodywork, blades, cabling and an instruction manual.
A couple more nights putting this beauty together and I am good to go! Read my lips; NO PROPRIATORY LOCKIN! I've added spoilers, low-profle wheels; neon lights under the chassis and a suspension rig that I can jack up and down if any hot chicks walk by while
I'm in the front yard, trimmin' the green. Can ya do that with your 'one lawn mower fits all' Flymo? For best results, use a rake
FlymoMan wrote:
Like I said dude ... you suck. If you want to spend your life building your own lawmowers that's fine, but don't come here trying to push your OpenLawn s**t on us.

Quite frankly, I am howling with laughter at the both of you. Simply howling. Didn't you see the keynote? Next year, AppleTree will be releasing the iMow. Quite simply, it will revolutionize lawnmowing for the next one million years.

Do you honestly believe that anyone will buy a lawnmower made of glass?
AppleTree fan wrote:
First day sales are estimated at 95 billion units. I think the world is ready for a lawnmower that 'just works'.
Corona_Mower wrote:
Cool! Here that FlymoMan?! AppleTree and OpenLawn are going to bury Flymo. It's all over. We won. For best results, use a rake.
FlymoMan wrote:
Ninety-five billion units? You do know that there are only six billion people on the planet, and most of them don't have lawns?
AppleTree fan wrote:
Doesn't matter. Farmer Jobs said it at the last keynote, so it must be true. Anyway, since the iMow has glass blades that may wear out quickly, AppleTree recommends that everyone buys at least six to ten iMows, and few more because your
jealous Flymo-owning neighbours will just keep asking to borrow it.

You're doomed man. Lost! For best results, use a rake.

Hey, you know something? I'm an OpenLawn man through and through, but I'm forced to use Flymos at work. But if it comes in at under $10,000 I might give the iMow a try.
FlymoMan wrote:
.. and doesn't the iMow just cut iGrass? That's what I heard.
AppleTree fan wrote:
That's just crap that Flymo puts out in desperate attempt to maintain its dwindling market share.
Corona_Mower wrote:
Tell him dude! Tell him! For best results, use a rake.
AppleTree fan wrote:
The fact is, the iMow will cut any kind of lawn, but the iLawn is the preferred option. But green is so last year, so why wouldn't anyone want to replace that tired old grass, with an iLawn?
FlymoMan wrote:
.. because aluminium spikes will hurt my feet?
AppleTree fan wrote:
So buy a pair of AppleTree iBoots. Jeez.
See how that works?
