DX10 is do-able on Windows XP

Is there some substance to this article concerning Windows Vi$ta aka Me II.

When will the other Windows supporting suckers learn.  For best results use Linux.

Windows Vista, a market failure.  Linux is superior, so superior Sun is trying to make Solaris more like Linux.  This just proves Unix is dead, Windows is dead and Linux is king.  Long live the king.  Apple fears the GPL 3 otherwise move your base over to it.  Im off to greener pastures.  You suckers can have it and keep getting screwed.  Microsoft is a failure, their products are failures.

Charlie Demerjian has a bug up his a$$ about Microsoft, and has used the Inq website to push his opinions as fact, as often and as loudly has he can. The number of times he makes "factual" statements, only to retract them later when proven to be incorrect, totally destroys any credibility he has.

I don't see how people get so excited about operating systems, its just a tool, its nothing to get religous about.  Especially Linux, who the hell cares?

Must admit that Linux (OpenSolaris, *BSD, ...) is more than just a tool for me. It is way to learn about how OSes works, programming, technologies, etc. and Linux is perfect OS for _my_ needs. I guess that for example Xaero Vincent thinks about the same way.
I try avoid to be irritating über Linux zealot but sometimes it's pretty hard especially when someone post well formed provoke .

But back to topic. _If_ this news is true I think it's ok if the decision is made by technical reasons. It's good that there are many good reasons switch from XP to Vista already... this is decision one more.

If anybody is serious about the question of DX10 on XP, here's some technical experts on the matter:

Exactly... I have worked in the IT industry for 35years (and still make my living from it) and for the life of me, I can't see how anyone can find Windows/Linux/Unix/OSX etc etc to be a subject worthy of religious zealot behaviour.

I have used them all (and a bunch that most people have never even heard of) and as far as I'm concerned, they are all merely a means to an end... running an application program to perform a task. So long as the task gets done, it could be running CP/M for all I care.

There are FAR more important issues in the world that are infinitely more worthy of getting all hot and bothered over, than what brand of software your computer runs.

Well Wine and Cedega developers are talking about implementing the DX10 API under Unix and may have started already--not sure. In either case, it should therefore be concluded that DX10 could exist in XP.

I think technical people look at geeky subjects (such as an OS) in much the same manner as a non-techincal guy would a hotrod or hot girlfriend. Human beings all have one thing in common and that is exercising our bragging rights and endorsing what we believe in.

DirectX on Unix defyed all odds too but it turned out very plausible. DirectX 10 will eventually make into Unix and may support Windows XP then because, oddly enough, Wine supports Windows.

There may be techincal aspects involved making DX 10 for XP difficult but its almost entirely a lack of developer interest.

It has very little to do with operating systems, or even computing in general.Folk who have very little going on in their lives, tend to latch onto something to make them feel either rebellious or superior, or both. Having few friends, then they like to associate with like-minded rebellious/superior people. Operating systems are the choice battleground because that is something that these people interact with every day. If they had lawns, then we would see threads like this all over the internet:
