So, I'm doing the recruiting/hr for our little engineering team. I've been searching and receiving resumes lately and here are some funny excerpts.
- One gentleman made the "Deany's List" at his school which I thought was impressive.
-"My GPA upon graduation was 2.61."
-One gentleman uses IIS as an operating system, still another was an IIS developer.
-The fact that every single resume I'm getting shows that kids immediately become "Senior Programmers" after graduation.
-One interesting job title was "Softwar Developer" ... LINUX VS WINDOWS, THIS TIME THE GLOVES COME OFF
-
-
Quite funny. Especially the Senior Programmers. When hearing the term, I always think of old people with gray hear, coming out of their ears and nose.
-
I feel sorry for those people. I was one of those people -- where filling out a 1-page resume was a problem. Had to dip into that "extra curricula" pool a few times.

So do tell... where do you put the cut off point for being an 'idiot'? I ask because I ended my undergrad career with whopping 2.617... and yet not a single recruiter or interviewer who heard that # stopped wanting to talk to me... even before I got a masters and with a solid 4.0 for it.
As you get older you’ll discover that grades only tell a small part of the story... like how much they did, not what they are capable of and what they do when properly motivated. -
There are the soft wars and then there are the hard wars. Of course there are also the star wars.
-
I on't think a 2.61 makes you an idiot, I just wouldn't put that on my resume as an accomplishment.

The accomplishment is not the grade, it's putting it on the resume.

Heh, as in someone was so brave to do it.
And besides, he could have gone to a challenging school. Or maybe he just wasn't motivated. Tons of geniuses dropped out of school due to lack of motivation and interest.
But yeah, there are many factors to consider. Looking at the 2.61 as just a number != 4.0 is a bit unfair to the intellect of that individual.

3.75 - 4.0 +
So... because during my undergrad years when I was paying for my classes I decided not to spend endless hours in the classroom doing every little thing and pushing myself as hard as I could have... I instead studied areas relevant to my field outside of class, things that were not directly related to what was taught in class and there for did not impact my GPA... makes me an idiot?
If so... you may instead want to look in the mirror. -

You can have a 2.61 GPA and be a genius.
You can have a 2.61 GPS and be an idiot as well. I think that is much more likely.
Or, if you are a genius, it would probably mean that you're a lazy genius, which is only slightly better than a hard-working idiot.

The Soft Wars! They say they were only started so that NERF could get some lucrative weapon contracts.

So your hiring people? I would like to interview.
I would say, that on an average, I only work about twenty minutes a day. When I do work, I mostly reverse engineer someone elses work, and if I can't I come here and ask enough questions so people can do my work for me without knowing they are.
Aside from that I googled my way into my current position, and by social engineering have not only dispensed with the other members of my team, but have also placed my friend in as my new team, thereby assuring my slackerific freedom.
Basically I will BS my way through any task that is assigned to me, and offload it onto someone else behind my direct superiors back.
If I sound like the ideal cantidate please don't e-mail me, write me, text me, or call me, I'm very happy with my current position, I just like to interview, it's kind of like confession.
Regards,
Ix

"Well, I usually come in about 15 minutes late. I take the side door, that way Lumbergh doesn't notice. Then after that I just sorta space out for about an hour. Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch, too. I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work." -

I didn't notice until right now, the award on my desk verifies your assessment of my work situation....wow...just wow...

2.6 doesn't make you an idiot, it makes you lazy or distracted. Or both.
And I've known (indeed currently know) quite a few idiots with 4.0 GPAs
