Today i am rather sad.
This morning as i was preparing to head to dorset for an interview my girlfriend rang me, obviously to wish me good luck. However, upon answering i find her to be in tears.
During our sleep someone had broken into her back garden and stolen both our bikes. Now this is a pain for me as i just accepted a job which i kinda need to cycle to get too (10pm - 7am night shift grocery stocker).
My bike is about 7 maybe 9 years old and not brilliantly looked after i must admit. Hers was about a year or 2 old, neither were worth more than £100 but thats beside the point. It just really really irks me that someone would do that.
I didn't have insurance so i'm now gonna have to go get a new bike (which i had been contemplating for a lil while but didn't really want to do) which will prolly cost me £200 by the time i get a bike, lights and locks (damn i had a nice lock for my bike too
which i don't think they make anymore).
I'm just really annoyed.

That is unfortunate. I'm sorry to hear it.
Best of luck henceforth.

Bummer.
My brother-in-law just had his bike stolen too - from his garage. He's been preparing to cycle from Landsend to John O'Groats this summer. He's hoping a local paper will run the story of the theft and help him get some sponsorship so he can do the trip.
It really makes you dislike the place you live when it's been invaded like that, doesn't it? Especialy when you can't see that what was stolen was worth that much.

That sucks,
I got mine stolen a couple of years ago, but found it later at a train station... guess whoever took it was late or something. Might be worth checking places like that -

Sorry to hear about your property being stolen.
It can be maddening, at least it was for me.
I left the lawnmower out in the side yard one evening, instead of putting it back in the shed in the backyard, I woke up for work in the morning and went to return the mower to the shed, only to discover someone had stolen it during the night!
I mean seriously, who would even steal a 200 pound lawnmower?
I was so upset. It was only a year old, and I had paid $550 just the previous summer for it.
I scoured the neighborhood for weeks looking for it, but never did find it.
I was suspicious of every stranger (and even neighbors!) that would walk past my house for months.
I hope you get your bike back. -
cheers guys, it really does suck when people steal it and it's more annoying when the police can't do anything about it. I think my bike was postcoded though so that might be some use.
I'm gonna goto a few of the second stores and the bike stores and ask if theyve had anyone trying to sell these bikes, and if not if they could look out for a bike with these serial numbers (i think bikes have serials along the bottom tube).
You're right about being suspicious of everyone. I mean, where we kept the bikes was way out of the way, you'd have to have known we kept them there to go looking, i really don't think this was a thieving by chance. -
Thats not good thieves should be castrated!
I'm about to spend £500+ on a bike just waiting for it to come in stock, id be pissed if someone stole that [6]

Obviously you should not buy the same kind of lock again!

Adrian
PS Having been burgled a couple of times, I have simpathy with you. -

i really wish it was the locks fault, it was completely mine, i didn't lock it up. There was nothing much to secure it too really. I suppose i could of taken it inside.
Whats done is done, i'll just have to shell some money out, a friend has lent me their bike for the time being. I haven't lost a whole lot really, i have my pump and cycle helmet still (yes i wear a helmet), and i didn't have lights anyway so i'd need lights and a new lock really.
leapdale what bike will you be getting? i'm thinking of getting either a hybrid or a mountain. They're doing the GT Avalanche 3.0 disc for £260 near me or a scott voltage yz35 for £270. dunno if i really wanna spend that much though my last one did go on for 8years and did get a lot of use. -
I'm going for a GT Avalanche 1.0 Disc 2007, seems like the best bike for the money I want to spend.

After someone failed to steal my friend's bike (they were interrupted) he dug a hole in the ground, and set a really big chain in concrete so he could lock the bike up quite visibly should anyone else think of trying to steal it.
Much sympathy, our house was broken into last year (while we were in bed... many many sleepless nights followed) so I know how it can be. It's especially annoying when you know they won't have got anything like the true value out of the things they stole. -
Two Trex sports bikes a few years old but cared for and in excellent condition and free to whoever will take them. They have flat tyres that need either pumping or replacing. Collection from West Hampstead
