More than slightly concerning, considering I trust Excel to do basic arithmetic on a regular basis.

bizarre!
-
Reading through the linked thread it seems to be a result of pre AND post processing of the value before it is rendered. The fact that A1-1 and A1+1 (where A1 is the SUM()) give different results lend some weight to this argument.

Banks using Excel to handle money shall have sleepless nights if upgraded to Excel 2007.
They should have busy time verifying the balance of accounts...
-
As a front office developer at an investment bank this scares the crap out of me.
MS fix this and fix it VERY quickly!!!
-

MS KNOWS BETTER!!!
Bloody hell!!! HOW?!?!?!?!
PS: "=IF(77.1, 77.0999)" rulezzz!
PPS: Never do any development/testing in India/China...

What does this have to do with anything? -

Don't think so.... Now MS needs to check ALL operations for ALL numbers...

Oh, sorry! I've completely forgot!
"Quality" doesn't means anything anymore, just "quantity"...
PS:
"QoS":
1. (old meaning) "Quality of Service"
2. (new maning) "Quantity of Sold"
-
But wait...
Perhaps Excel using some elements of quantum calculations?...
Probably in some parallel universe 2x2 is not quite 4? Who knows... -

some kind of display thing....
I just did 850 * 77 that gave 65,450.000
then the 850 * 77.100 gave 100,000.000
when I did =d8-c8 i got 85.00
but wnen i manualy entered 100,000 and 65,450 and did the subtract i got 34,550.00
so my off the cuff look says that internally the number is right but the display is wrong.
but yes MSFT needs to see this and jump on it.

There has already been a bug filed on this. My guess is that it will be addressed with SP1.
-
Settle down. This is just part of MS Do More With Less campaign. You will now be able to do 100,000 with just 65,355. Quit complaining!
PS
This does look like somebody forgot to take out some debugging code, though. 65355 = 2^16 - 1 (or (Int16) -1) -
Ok...
MS Stats:
Units of Vista sold: 850
Unit Price, GBP: 77.1
Sale Amount, GBP = 100,000
Yo!
