Err, I installed Ubuntu 7.04 in VPC and didn't have any problems. You just set VPC's cd drive to the location of your ISO and proceed as per normal install.

Yea; I have no mouse during the GUI part of the install. Is that normal?

Is this ununtu?
If so, no I don't think so.
I'll fire up VPC and remind myself what happens. -

Try the "alternative installation" ISO file. (This should use the [superior {in my opinion} text installation {hence no mouse is needed}]).

Won't VPC through a wobbly with that because it doesn't use enough colours or something?

If I need a small install I usually use Debian's netinst CD image.

Sorry, my working install is 6.0.6, not 7.04
I can't get the 7.04 live cd to work well at all.

OpenSuse is the best distro to use in VPC, in my experience. Ubuntu's a big no-- they don't detect the VM's video card correctly, so to get it to work, you'll have to use the alternative install disk, then modify xorg.conf once you get it running just to get X working. Suse doesn't have this problem-- you can just install and run.
(don't know about Fedora or Debian on this issue) -
Add "i8042.noloop" to the kernel startup parameters in /boot/grub/menu.lst, and you should be good to go. Google i8042.noloop, Ubuntu, and Virtual PC for detalis on what that actually does.blowdart wrote:

There's a VMWare image all ready to go for SUSE which has everything you are looking for.

Uh-huh. And considering I said Virtual PC rather than VMWare?

Check out the Mouse section, there's a kernel parameter you need to pass at boot. There's a lot of other useful information on the page, too. -
Sorry to butt in...is anyone using MS Virtual PC 2007?
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx
I was just watching the demo and it said it was part of Vista, (a reason to migrate, apps wise) but I didnt even know it was included in the new of OS...was this pulled from Vista? -

I'm using that right now. I'm pretty sure I had to install it separately though.
So I used the alternative ISO to install Ubuntu 7.10 and now I get this weirdness:

I was talking to a friend of mine who virtualizes Ubuntu through Parallels and he said he had to modify the xorg.conf file too... -

Virtual PC is a separate install and works in XP or Vista.
