Whoopie doo.
Or not, now that I've got my @lloydhumphreys.com sorted [h] (Thank you w3bbo

I've had an @live.nl address for over a year, now.

Good luck

I've had mine for awhile, ever since that JavaScript hack came out.
-
I think that live.ca addresses are coming out pretty soon too.

OK, so why the fuss about @live.com email addys?
I've had a @yahoo.com addy since near the time they first opened their doors to us, but I can't remember any hoopla over that, @gmail.com generated interest, but that was mainly the storage space compared to (then) @hotmail and @yahoo. I have all three, though I never use hotmail... just didn't like the interface.
I'm like many people on here, and have my own domain(s), so the @?????.com public servers are used mainly for spamtraps and non-essential mail.
At the end of the day @live.com = microsoft, so it will be targeted by spammers et al, and we all know how well microsofts spam filters work... don't we?
-
My hotmail account gets no spam... of course, the only thing it does get is stuff from Microsoft (as I don't use the account)...
The big thing is that this is a new domain. For those of us without our own domains, this means we can have some highly desirable addresses (i.e. easily remembered email addresses that don't have ten-digit numbers following them). -
But why is it highly desirable?... Because it is affiliated with Microsoft? What's wrong with @yahoo, @gmail, @hotmail and coutless others that allow a sensible email address. Why do we need yet another email domain for fanbois to drool over?
Or am I just too old to understand?

Nothing magic about the @live.com. Just a fresh source of names (try registering your first name at any of the popular providers).
-
Fair point, yes getting your first choice on most providers is nigh on impossible. But with the costs of domain names dropping through the floor, is it not more desirable to have a personal email domain and not rely on a generic one?
I paid IIRC £2.95 for my last domain, and that included mail forwarding if I required it. Yes replying reveals your normal email address, but if Lloyd (a teenager) can afford his own domain, I'm sure that the majority of visitors to this site can easily afford it... hell, I'm on the dole, and I have 4!
Now, when we get @dead.com that might be an interesting time to look into a @live account as well
EDIT: @die.com might be a better one

It's the 4 letter domain name. Those are hard to come by.

I don't get any spam on my live.nl address. -
It's more that if you get in early you can possibly get a decent e-mail address with no stupid numbers after it.
-
It would be really cool if I could get {oops... shouldn't put an email address in plaintext}... nice and simple and easy to give out.

-
It's up as of now.
