No and Yes. They did buy them and rebrand it, but it wasn't that recently. I've been using it for over a year, now.

I gave up reading that article after the first paragraph when it became clear that they did not know what they were talking about.
Some parts of Windows Live have been out of beta for a long time now. Other are not. They do not release Windows Live services in one go they do them individualy. Windows live is nothing new.
Windows live is not one thing - it is a name for a group of things.
Although I expect anyone who uses this forum would know all that.
