For those that were around at begining of C9 they will remember my many many posts concerning SP2's changes to fullscreen in IE.
I'm sure shining arcanine will ![]()
As mentioned in the chat - when will we see Smart Fullscreen - as Sp2's full screen is not fullscreen.
* ie team said couldnt replicate what i was refering too - here is issue below;
The bottom bar on any URL using http://
Perhaps allow the user to close and /or/ hide the bottom zone bar - as they can with the top bar now - or ideally use the one command at top for both bars - ie; they both autohide together
it literally just drives me nuts that it is not fullscreen - now that you have added the mandatory zone bar with no way to shut it off.
I mean - i have sites coded to have a bar at the bottom of the browser specified to Bottom=0
that code should be correct. the bottom should be 0
but that isnt the case now.
I really dont want to go recode a bunch of interfaces - that were designed to run full screen - and coded as such - and have to incorporate an ill-thoughtout implimentation of fullscreen workaround into my design.
like full screen or not - as programmers you must admit - having an unremmovalable bar at the bottom of the screen does not a full screen make
would it be that bad to add "autohide" or "close" to this bar?
ps: thanks ie team for what is still the best browser out there

Jamie,
There are restrictions added in Windows XP SP2 to prevent a website from being able to place the browser into full screen mode without the address bar or address bar being visible. This is to prevent the bad guys from putting up a UI that might lead a user to mistakenly enter their passwords into their website for them to capture.
The user can still place the browser into full screen mode if they wish by selecting "FUll Screen" from the View menu or just hitting the F11 key.
I'm not sure exactly what you are referring to as I'm not sure what you mean by "bottom zone bar". the status bar is not shown if the user selects to go into Full Screen mode.
These changes are amongst others in Windows XP SP2 designed to ensure that users are safe and secure on the web.
Thanks

Jamie,
No need for so many screenshots. This is non reproducable for us hence our puzzlement. On Windows XP SP2 if we hit the F11 key there is no status bar on the screen and IE takes all the screen.
We cannot help you if we cannot repro. Do you see this on more than one computer?
Thanks

I agree with Dave, there shouldn't be work arounds.
-
URL to test ( temorarily allow pop-ups)
www.grininc.ca/grindows
-must have only one monitor
-must have resolution set to 1024
-must be IE 5.5 or above
*worked perfect pre-sp2 -

..err you mean you agree with me?
"I really dont want to go recode a bunch of interfaces - that were designed to run full screen - and coded as such - and have to incorporate an ill-thoughtout implimentation of fullscreen workaround into my design."
my point is only - fullscreen should be fullscreen botom = 0 top = 0
the way they have it there are many different instances where certain things - scenarios have not been tested thought out - like the web file power point generates ( they are no longer full screen from http:// command)
thats all
-
but those workarounds do not work
-
If I understand correctly, you want to be able to disable the status bar in popup windows, which I disagree with. I think it was a concious decision to force the status bar to display.
-
Jamie,
If the web page requests the browser take over all the display area of the screen we will supress it and ensure that the user understands they are on a web page and not be tricked into entering data.
Now that you finally gave us a url it does appear that subsequent requests by the user for that page to go full screen through F11 will leave the status bar shown. Now that we have a repro we can look into this for the future.
The change to restrict the ability of a website to spoof a user was a specific work item for Windows XP SP2 to ensure users are safe. We are very unlikely to change that functionality and return to the original behavior. The ability to go full screen should remain under the users control only.
Thanks

i can deal with the pop up window...
right now - on the c9 site - i hit full screen or f11 - and it isnt fullscreen
it has the zone bar at bottom
( the top is fine - its on auto hide so it goes away)
maybe just rename it - Almost Fullscreen -
Jamie,
What do you mean by "Zone bar"? The descriptions are getting confusing. At the bottom of IE there is typically a status bar. Is that what you are referring to?
When I hit the F11 key on channel 9 I see no status bar.
The confusion here is a great example of why we need step by step repros to look at issues. It's very easy to assume that everyone is seeing what you are seeing yet every configuration is different.
Thanks

thanks for all the responses dave
if i sound upset or peeved it is only that this feature that was removed was close to my heart - perhaps the entire main reason i become webdeveloper: to make interfaces - not mini ones - full screen ones
anything you guys can do in the future to rectify this sometimes one way - sometimes another way situation would be greatly appreciated
thanks! -
C9 example:
go to view / status bar turn off
hit F11 or click fullscreen icon ( whichi have turned on)
C9 goes full screen - top bar autohides ( like its set to do)
status bar on bottom - that was added to show your Zone (sp2) comes on with no way to turn it off
-
Jamie,
I still can't repro and I've tried two machines here. I'll keep experimenting with different ways. Have you seen this on more than one machine? I'd like to ensure that we aren't jsut seeing a single isolated case due to a misconfiguration.
Thanks

one last thought:
in the event there is no one at ms that can somehow make the status bar closable - at LEAST make zero reside to top edge of the new bottom bar
right now it covers it - it comes in front of bottom = 0
this is my whole point

well i have 3 monitors - but i have been turning them off and only using one for these tests..
with one monitor - hitting f11 or clicking full screen on c9 or whereever i get the irremovable status bar - even when its turned off -
I get this same as Jamie does. I hit F11 while viewing any page, and what you call "Status Bar" is still at the bottom. As well as the Scroll bars (but that's ok). But I'm not as upset about this, but I guess you have to fix it because Jamie (as well as all the other graphics/web designers) needs it fixed.

in windows media player - (now they have got some really sweet full screen) - fade ins -fading scroll in/outs..
use that for ie fullscreen
in winmedia both the bottom and top work as one in fullscreen mode - coming in or out in conjunction
Just do that with autohide - for both bars at once
* but not when mouse moves (like winmedia) as it would break interfaces
