I just got an email saying if I want to use Bing Search API, I need to spend 40 dollars per month minimum once they switched it to Azure. I mean, seriously? Really? I haven't use Search in my site, but, I sure won't use it in the future knowing I have to pay.

Microsoft as a business are there to make money, and as much of it as possible. Traditional ecosystems where, ISV's and Microsoft Partners could build profitable businesses, are set to change because Microsoft have adopted the Apple model of doing things.
Your typical musician for example, detests iTunes for the amount of money they make for each sale of their music, and this is the way Microsoft are aiming to change the nature of the relationships with their main customers. That is why no-one is saying anything from the Borg.
Either put up with their charges, or shut-up.
PS. Writing/Posting/Speaking in the Third Person.

For my 10+ channel9 searches a month, no way I am going to pay 40 bucks.
This is total bull crap!
Either provide a small free search API and a thick fat one for 40 dollars.
This is rediculous. I'm switching to google and putting a big fat google button in the app.
Do I have to pay when I search with my phone aswel?
I'm so disappointed :[

Need to make coffeehouse on wp7, this sux
-
@Maddus Mattus: Yeah, that's pretty lame. I guess they can't make any ad money when you access it through the API.
-
@spivonious: that I can understand, still pisses me off.
Sorry guys, no more search via the wp7 app

-
Looks like google it is, via json, search results are limited and google logo must be present,.. But hey, it's free!
-
@Maddus Mattus: Free for now. Didn't they start charging for Google Maps access a few weeks ago?
I think in ten years we'll see a big move to subscription-based services and the WWW will be seen as antiquated.
-
@spivonious:just want a simple search, not the rest of the mumbo jumbo. Will suck if the will start charging for maps too.
Back to the lists then!

Yahoo!'s 1k node HBase cluster used to host their snapshot of Microsoft's Bing crawl. There, free for you. Problem solved.
Your little apps will never use up the entire 50 Search BOSS credits.
Update: sorry, I forgot some of you don't know how to use oAuth to connect to BOSS v2. Here are the libraries for various languages: http://code.google.com/p/oauth/
Seeing Microsoft make money off the little people while they bathe in Corvette limo swimming pools makes me sad and motivated me to post this info.

I really really dislike this marketing. Because you will see 98% of sites using Google custom search and that's depressing. Why alienate the little guys? Just feel like we are treated like 3rd class citizen when we don't work for a massive corporation.

@magicalclick: jup!
