I got an email from Microsoft regarding Hyper-V hitting RTM so I just installed Hyper-V RTM. I use win2k8 as desktop OS so this might not be an issue anyone seen yet. My sound gets a lot of glitches in it now after installing Hyper-V. Not sure why. It happens
when doing disk operations. The mouse also gets small glitches as in it gets a little slow for a second or so. Running Q6600 2.4GHz, 8GB RAM, SATA-II. Oh, and it happens even when no virtual machines are running. I'm guessing the Hyper-V service does something
here.
Anyone else has hit performance issue with Hyper-V?

You get sound? I'm running Ubuntu on it and it doesn't recognize any soundcards. Also, the screen makes it look like you are on a bad remote desktop connection.

No no, sound on the host operating system, not the guest. I mean, the Host OS glitches. I haven't tried sound on the guest OS though but the screen etc runs fine for me, really fast and all. I got one XP and one 2k3 as guest OS but you need to install the "Integration Services" from the menu of the guest OS. However, I'm not sure if it supports Linux.ZippyV said:You get sound? Hey Turrican,
You can use the performance counters in the Performance and Reliability MMC snap-in to monitor what the hypervisor is using.
The values from task manager/procexp in the root partition are no longer accurate as even if they say 0% CPU that doesn't mean that your actual physical box isn't running at 100%. You just don't know. (AFAIK)
The only reliable way is to to use the Hyper-V performacne counters and monitor them. Wait for a spike and hopefully something on the graph will go up.
Also, be sure to have the latest drivers installed for all your hardware in the root partition. And try to use the IC component hardware and not the 'Legacy Network Card' and things like that in the VM

I see, thanks!KevinB said:Hey Turrican,

Was listening to this http://www.dotnetrocks.com/default.aspx?showNum=359 earlier and it seems to hint that once hyber-V is installed, the host system (note that it's not host as in a VPC Host) no longer has full access to the native hardware, and you will lose certian features and performance of the host. -
Thanks, that indeed seems to be the issue here. I'm feeling glitches and slowness in the graphics as well. Although, it isn't all that of a big deal right now. Going to try a game and see how it goes. Beside that, I'm very happy with the Hyper-V so far, it's really nice and feel much faster than VirtualPC.PerfectPhase said:

I highly recommend you read the Hyper-V guide at Virtualization Team Blog
They had scripted a step by step guide for installing, configuring, & using MS Hyper-V. I have followed it in our installation for our testing enviornment and the installation was really easy. The MS Hyper-V 5 parts series are linked to below. Check it out and hope that will get you there easily just as I were able to do it first time.
Intro: Introduction to Microsoft Windows 2008 Hyper-V RTM & Our Discovery Trip.
Part one: Microsoft Windows 2008 Hyper-V RTM Installation
Part Two: MS Hyper-V Virtual Networks Configuration & Hyper-V Server settings.
Part Three: MS Hyper-V Virtual Machine Creation.
Part Four: MS Hyper-V Virtual Machine Settings.
Part Five: Microsoft Hyper-V Snapshots Technology.
Bonus: Install SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 SP1 & Component Integration for Linux on Hyper-V
Hope that get you there.
Enjoy,
Susan
