*this is sort of funny - or i thought it to be...
after moving old tv upstairs to bedroom (that monster projector one) we made room by moving server out of spare room and putting Dresser in there.
= no home for server.
and after doing floor in living room - switching it around / there is no room for last machine (before the one im on now - still excellent computer
= no home for last machine
and now that old huge tv is in bedroom... the small normal tv has no where to go (i do have another cable outlet in my office)
= no home for old tv
so.... i was thinking of making my desk go all the way across my office:
- my regular 3 monitors / machine - then a tv , the server and my last machine running ..... some type of linux
i should probably just retire some of the machines - but the thrill of having .... 6 MONITORS on a desk is intriguing
should i go for it? or be green and save the earth ![]()
?

Donate what you don't need. Sound like us here, lots of crap lying around that some talented charities can turn into nice working computers.

my main issue is not an altruistic one - just selfish one: do i want to work in a room with a jet engine ( = sound of 3 pcs / 6 monitors )
i could always wear headphones

Ya get used to it.jamie said:

Why have so many PCs on the same desk when you can just use VMs? It's not like you're going to be using all of them at once.jamie said:

VM's are the way forward! I have one server in the loft now that runs the work load of 4 old machines. Means my office now has a single Optiplex 745 with three monitors and it is quite!
If I need to try something out I fire up a test image on my work station, if it needs to keep running I just move the image to the central server and RDP into the image or use the remote console.
And the elec bill has gone down!
As for desks, can never have to much desk space, my desk wraps around most of 2 walls of my home office

In a typical square room with more than 25 Dev boxes we eliminated all systems sounds.
You'd be surprised how your room can be tuned. -
I have the same problem albiet on a much smaller scale, the family are screaming at me to do something with my old PCs but I love them too much!
I know Harlequin is right in my heart of hearts though... I may donate two of my old rigs now I have my desktop and MBP

I looked at those sorts of materials for another project, but they are really expensive!
