At work I hardly use my "physical" phone, which acts as a small computer for my UC account. At home, I use my cell phone only occasionally, to call a taxi or have a fixed all-time available connection node, which anyone hardly use
Are phones becoming
obsolete?
EDIT: Phone as in phone, when used only to make calls
EDIT2: updated the title

when my mom dies - which i hope never happens ...then i doubt ill have a phone
everyone i know uses email or facebook - plus i have a cell phone - so i think the land line will go -
I recently got a land line, but only because the combined package Internet + phone was cheaper than just getting Internet.
I usually use my cellphone, and typically I just send e-mails with it. Calling is very rare, although the last few weeks I had some trouble with the Internet so I had to make a lot of calls to get that fixed; that's something I still prefer to do by phone, because you know they're helping you then and there. If you send an e-mail, no telling when they'll get to it. -
@Jamie, sorry: phone as in phone, cell phone or whatever, anything used to make calls, that's what I meant, I should have used a better title, like "do you still use your phone to make calls" or something...

Count me in.... so long as i can keep the internet on iphone.. not using the phone partIon Todirel said:@Jamie, sorry: phone as in phone, cell phone or whatever, anything used to make calls, that's what I meant, I should have used a better title, like "do you still use your phone to make calls" or something...

Its a case of legacy technology. I get free calls after 6 and free evening and weekend calls which is helpful if you live in a house with anyone of an ovarian disposition.
Women are generally the people that are lining phone companies pockets as they can talk for 2 hours and not mention a single fact. Phones are also useful for those with a wife and female children. Kids just love to yack so you can tell them to use their cell phone minutes up wisely as parental control is essential. The rest of the time they can use the family phone. -
My landline phone rings all the time,
always for my wife
no one loves me,..
As for my cell phone,...
I try not to use it as much,.. As answering the phone means more work,.. -
The only reason that I have a landline is because I got a discount from my cable/internet/phone provider for buying the complete package.
The discounted package price costs less with a phone, than any package that didn't include it.
So basically, I save pay less for cable and internet because I have a phone, weird.
However, I never use it. The only people that ever call it are bill collectors looking for someone else.
I've been getting calls for Patricia Suber (no idea who this woman is, but she owes alot of people money) for like 4 years now, so annoying. -

Don't be fooled, all that chattering is just error correction.

disconnect the backbone and they'll stop planning evil stuff on the 'network'
I don't use my phone much and I'm always annoyed, if I have to. -
I use my cell a lot. I don't have a home phone but that is because I travel a lot.
-
I use my cell or skype for everything.
-
I think you've just about vindicated everything everyone's said about women single-handedly supporting phone companies thereSaraJoRedux said:I use my cell or skype for everything.

As for me, I tend to only use my phone for texting when I can help it. Occasionally people call me, but if I ever call anyone I tend to use Skype.

I also use my cell quite a bit, mostly for calling my parents, though.SaraJoRedux said:

I've got a pretty basic flip-phone with a traditional keypad; I have unlimited texting but avoid it as it's a pain to text on my phone (if I had an iPhone or a QWERTY keypad on my phone it would be a different matter, but I don't).
(curiously enough, as I was typing this message, I received and responded to a text...)
