Yep, that's the Win7 VPC beta, which is fine if using Win7 as a VPC Host, but not much use for using Win7 as a guest on VISTA.

Still, I wonder why, if they can make Win7 VPC support transparency and aero (even if emulated) VPC-2007-SP1 on VISTA doesn't provide similar functionality.

Virtual PC 7 requires VT, period. It won't work at all without it. It's a lot slower than VPC 2007 though, and with the new integration features enabled the guests are limited to 16 bit colour. With the integration features disabled there is no way to get files from the host to the guest because folder sharing is gone and dragging files into the VM also doesn't work anymore.

It also still doesn't support x64 guests which is really annoying because it means I can't install Windows Server 2008 R2 in a VM (unless I use VMWare instead).

The memory requirements have doubled though. Also, you will run 'out of memory' if you don't use a page file, no matter how much RAM you actually have. I have 6GB and hardly use 4GB of that. Disabling the pagefile causes problems with my apps running out of memory to allocate. That's annoying. I already killed one SSD because of the damn page file.

Appear to be ok given others are reporting same ones. You can try put your checksum on google, if there's many reports of it then it atleast was not corrupted on your end.

Downloaded again through the DL manager, it got to the end and told me that was corrupt too.

Let's hope it's third time lucky.

I'm now on my 5th download. Download manager hasn't resumed it just started the whole thing all over again, I don't think I can actually be bothered any more so if it doesn't work this time I'll wait a few weeks.

The RC is a lot faster for me than the beta. And thankfully, while the beta rated my disk transfer rate at 2.0, the RC rates it back at 4.5 where it should be.

The only thing I really don't like about the RC are the new icons for things like Paint, Control Panel, Calculator, Notes, etc... Does anyone here think they look better?

Well, I sent in problem reports, it is all in Microsofts hands now. At least tab recovery works well.

I'm installing right now on my Mini 12 using a flash drive...  Seems that installation from a flash drive is quite speedy.

Might be a neat feature to include in the next version of Windows:  have a utility included on the DVD that automatically prepares the drive and copies the DVD's contents over.  This will be even more important as dvd-drive-less machines (like netbooks) become more and more popular, as installation from Flash on those machines isn't just something that would be nice; you can't install without it.

(edit:  at Completing Installation now...  while composing this post, I went all the way from about 50% on Expanding files to the reboot.  Not too shabby.)

Up and running...  drivers installed and all that good stuff.

Aero Glass works...  window dragging is somewhat choppy with transparency turned on, but with it turned off, everything is pretty smooth.

This is on a Mini 12 with GMA 500...  I'm surprised that it works as well as it does.

Experience Index of 2.2 (limited by the processor, which is a 1.6 GHz Atom); Aero graphics subscore of 2.9.

I installed Win7 RC last week and it's running well, but the screensaver doesn't work.  It works when you preview it, but after the set time elapses it doesn't automatically start the screensaver.  Any ideas?

Probably some app or driver keeping the system from idling.

Not sure what the cause is but has happened a few times.  I will try to see if I can find the exact steps to reproduce.

I still haven't figured out what is causing this but it does happen consitantly.

I log in as me with nothing running (except for messenger).  I switch users to my wifes standard account and everything is unresponsive.  I try to open up file explorer and it won't open.  I try to search in the start menu and it will only let me type one letter.  Very annoying.  I don't really have many apps installed... mainly things like messenger, live mail, zune, and office.  Has anyone else ran into this issue?
