What's a screensaver? Is that like a dreamscene?

My problem with cool screen savers is they don't seem to stop running when the monitors power down.
I really liked the Energy screensaver that came with Vista, until I realised it (as far as I could tell) continued running even after the monitors went into power-saving. Made my GPU fan run at high speed all night. After that I switched to something a lot less CPU/GPU intensive, but also a lot less pretty.
(It's definitely still worth having some kind of screensaver, even with modern TFT panels. Without one I start to find bits of static window imagery (start button, docked toolbars, gadgets, etc.) retained when the screen goes all grey, e.g. when viewing an image full-screen.)

McAfee VirusScan Enterprise detects it, as Joke-bluescreen.c... categorizes it as a joke, not a virus, but detects and quarantines it nonetheless.

In an Enterprise environment, helpdesk calls because of a "joke" screensaver cost money, so I'd say it's a fair assessment.

That Bluescreen Screensaver actually causes Windows Media Centre to fail. But that has more to do with how poorly coded WMC is and less to do with the screensaver.
Companies should never have screensavers setup. That just burns them money. Set up power management.

Sweeping generalisation there. There are plenty of cases where you want an unattended workstation to lock itself, but it's unlikely to be unattended for long enough to justify the time taken to recover from sleep/hibernate. Also, just because you have screensavers in place, there isn't anything stopping you from also using power management, the two things aren't mutually exclusive.

Power Management can be setup to be a lot more broadly than that.
15 minutes - Monitor
25 minutes - Hard Disk
45 minutes - SleepAnd if you must use a screensaver then I'd suggest using Blank. It won't eat CPU and will display the login screen.

15 minutes is a very long time for an unattended workstation to be left unlocked in a even vaguely secure environment. And the problem with Blank and/or turning off the monitor is that it can lead to support headaches from users who think there whole machine has turned off (yes I know how stupid that sounds, but believe me it happens).
Displaying a corporate logo is often preferable, the CPU impact is hardly worth worrying about and it's often also preferable from a branding POV.
