Windows 7 hit the mark?
![]()
It has nothing to do with Windows 7. If Microsoft had never released Vista or Win7 and was still only selling XP, PCs would still outsell Macs. Apple's computers use the same exact components as everyone else but cost substantially more. The only thing you get for the extra cost is a different operating system and a shinier case.
The Mac is the "desginer jeans" of computers. There will always be some people willing to pay more for a product that isn't really better than the cheaper alternatives.

Mac is the "Jeans Designer" now OLD, super OLD and out of tendence.
Now any notebook is much more beautiful than any Mac , Sony , DELL , Lenovo etc.
PS-. Have you looked at the data of adoption of Windows 7? ![]()

The point is that PC sales increased faster than Mac sales. It has nothing to do with absolute volume numbers, for example, Apple increased 31% in the 4th quarter, while HP increased 42%.
It's quite obvious that the two factors contributing to this are lower prices on PCs and Windows 7.

Personally, I think *ALL* computers are just ugly lumps of plastic/metal, and there is nothing *beautiful* about any of them.
I dislike Apple, their culture and their products, but will freely admit that I find their designs to be less objectionable than most of the competition. They definitely have a good team of industrial designers working for them.

But XP is too old, that was why people starting to swithing to Mac. But, not anymore because people is coming back for the new pretty Win7.
That's funny. I just bought a MacBook Pro and dropped Server 2008 R2 on it with BootCamp and setup my development environment. I paid a bit more for my hardware - $1800 for what you can get (spec wise) in the PC world for ~$999. I like the features available on the MBP(unibody, battery, magsafe, etc) and don't want to lug around two development laptops.
Even if Apple slipped in the charts, they are still growing. Win7 is pretty and is just what MS needed. I work on both daily. We are at the point where it matters not what your OS is , but what it is you can create within your environment and really, what you feel most comfortable in.
Microsoft Kool-Aid is tasting a bit better these days.

Well...I run Win7 on my Black (non-shiny) MacBook toggling with my Snow Leopard install, so I think I'm qualified to comment. Both OS' are fine and get the job done. Currently, the Mac is a superior choice for me and others because I want and need to run Win 7 and SL on one machine (and, I won't go the Hackintosh route). Apple is doing well in terms of mindshare and profitability. They are not as concerned about pure marketshare as other computer companies need to be.
Windows 7 is a good application of better designed lipstick to that previous pig (Vista), and gives Windows users a good OS platform; but IMHO, it is not on par with Snow Leopard yet.
Sadly, I'd still rather have a MacBook Pro than almost any other PC out there. The HP Envy series has horrible battery life and no optical drive. There are no other thin metal windows notebooks out there. We get this plastic crap.
Microsoft does sell a lot, but the lack of great premium sleek devices is really a shame. But, Windows being so compatible, can run on Apple hardware. I wonder what percentage of apple buyers use windows exclusively, has to be some?

Clearly you haven't seen the market over the last .. uh,,, year.. tons of really great looking systems coming out now.. hell, if the market wants pretty expensive things then thats what they'll get.. it isn't like good design is hard.. for hp and others they just hire any one of the gazillions of design firms that can do good design to do the work for them.. it isn't like apple are all expert designers.. most of them are just as mindless corp f-tards as hp are etc.
The only difference with apple is their marketing was aggressive (not up for making any friends along the way), and they went for the 'cool kid' thing.. but whilst thats let them get their 'foot in the door' that won't make them the gods.. esp considering the competition reaction is so easy to do.. (re shiney things).

I am well aware of the market. Most all laptops I see are still plastic. The HP Envy series I mentioned as an exception, but I also mentioned its drawback. Lack of an optical drive. MacBook Pros come with one, and are still just as thin.

That 'shiny' mantra is stale and actually, it's pretty much bs at this point in time, and marketing only gets a company so far...they have to back it up with good stuff. Apple gear (Macs and iPhones, etc.) are good stuff, and their ecosysytem works for avg usersmand power users alike. That said, the market is always changing, so the future is up for grabs.

Aparently you aren't, I'm not going out to compile a list for you, but I read engadget every other day and I've seen tons of nice laptops pass through over the last 12 months.

Apparently you do not understand. I am aware.
Try actually seeing them in real life. The endgadget photos do not do all computers justice. On campus vendors are always trying to shove this stuff down our throats (Come to "Wired Out" to meet with HP representatives showing off the new ..... ). Lithium Polymer batteries are not across the board yet. LED displays are also not across the board. When you walk into a store, the Windows PCs just do not hold up.
Thinkpads and the high end HPs are probably my favorite. When you pick them up, they do not feel like they will fall apart. But some of the Toshibas Dells, lower end HPs, they have this low quality feel. The lids are kinda flimsy, if you grab the PC by the wrist rest, the plastic bends in....
Windows Laptops are not horrible, they have gotten better, they have a little while to go.
Bla, bla bla bla bla,,, blah blah
