Virtual PC : where is it going?
a whole let of folks have been asking about support for a 64 bit Guest / or the lack of support and so far Microsoft has given a few replies:
1) Silence: the sound of crickets ....
2) talk about XP mode - that's not the question so that's not a reply
3) run server 2008 With HyperV on your laptop - not an answer for several reasons.
at one point i sent in a very nice email to HQ and got a formal reply that was a recap of 1,2,3
so it seems as if MSFT has decided to leave the market of Desktop Virtualization to the "other guys" after they have taken VirtualPC out of the market. so now it's VMWare and SUn for the desktop if you need 64 bit Guest support.
check out that thread that has been going for over 6 MONTHS!!! with the same result... MICROSOFT DOES NOT CARE!
a whole lot of the folks posting there are developers who need to run virtual machine copies of new server products that only run in 64 bit mode on a server OS.
we have all been asking for one bloody darn thing to be done and MSFT is not listening to us.
even if they can not share a public plan to address this CUSTOMER REQUEST they should at the least agree that if the customer wants it they should take it to hart.
I am sure that given how people are that for each post on that thread there are at least 100 other folks who agree but have not posted or did not know they could post there.
So where is Virtual PC 2010 with x64 Guest support ? the last update with 2007 so it's been 3 years already!
Just in case I was not clear:
NOT Hyper V, NOT Virtual Server, NOT SUN, NOT VMWare, NOT XP Mode, NOT MULTI BOOT, NOT Run the server on the laptop!!
Virtual PC 2010 ( or 2011) with x64 guest support.
Where is it?
if it's not going to be built then WHY NOT?
and What's the plan?
Get a clue form what happened to IE6 - that's what VPC looks like now....
