People aren't going to build very sophisticated games with this if they don't optimize the .NET compact framework for speed instead of memory, it performs fairly poorly on the 360 CPU, but you also have multiple cores and a powerful GPU to offload work to.  On a phone you'd just be screwed, isn't going to be competitive with native apps on other platforms.

The full .NET framework on desktop Windows? No, it has very good performance.  I'm talking about the .NET Compact Framework that lacks the same sort of investment, not to mention it optimizes for memory size over speed.  It lacks a whole bunch of things, but the most painful thing for games is probably the garbage collector, whose collection time increases linearly the more handles/references you have (on the compact framework) and is not generational.  It's just a dumb, enumerate every reference when collection is triggered thing.

BassicEffect:
- 0-3 Directional lights
- Blinn-Phong Shading
- Optional Texture
- Optional Fog
- Optional Vertex Color

DualTextureEffect:
- For lightmaps, detail textures, decals
- Blends two textures
- Separate texture coordinates
- Modulate 2X combine mode
- Good visuals at low pixel cost

AplhaTestEffect:
- For billboards & imposters
- Adds alpha test operations (pixel kill)
- Standard blending is free with all effects
- Only need alpha test if you want too disable depth/stencil writes

- Vertex skinning performed by the GPU
- Up to 72 bones
- One, tow or four weights per vertex

EnvironementMapEffect:
- Oh Shinny!
- Difuse Texture + cube environement map
- Cheap way to fake many complex lights
- Frsnel term simulates behaviour when lights reaches a surface and some reflects, some penetrates

I wish that was true, CKurt.   I have a feeling it's not though.  Why not just come out and say that it would become available for the Zune HD after a firmware update around the time of Windows Phone Seven launch?  The only answers I have are that they are doing this to force developers to move on to the Zune Phone and not allow apps to come out for the HD first.  Or, they are abandoning the Zune HD after only 6 mos.   Either way, it's not winning them any friends from the Zune enthusiasts. 

If Microsoft had the tiniest brain, then they would have included the Zune HD as part of the SDK.  Right now, they would be making more sales from people that would use the platform for test/dev prior to the WP7S launch.

I have heard several supporters slam Microsoft on this, and I have to agree with them.  The Zune "experiment" keeps sending the wrong messages to their customer base.
