I was about to ask about that given T3H SERVERS ASPLODE.
After downloading
Personal Message = FINALLY!!! -
they missed so much, offline messaging, wheres the menu button that can be found in Windows Media Player 10,why can't we add our own details to a persons contact card. why does the "what i'm listening to" feature only work with 2 apps and why can't you change the ID3 tags shown. why doesn't MSN today have a mini browser so that i can work with hotmail in the MSN Today window rather than having extra IE windows open. Why isn't MSN today an aggregator?
this release while bringing quite a few cool things, misses alot, i'm not impressed by MS, they had the feedback, they knew what was wanted, they stuffed up.
tell me i'm wrong -
Yes...
I really enjoy being bombarded with adverts in every conversation window
I really enjoy the "MSN Today" advert that pops up every time I start my computer
I really enjoy playing CounterStrike and having someone "nudge" me and thus wrecking my page-file
I really enjoy trying to pen a verbose response and having my typing (and thought train) interrupted by a huge animated eye staring back at me
And I really enjoy seeing inapproprite and pornographic display pictures
There's the big fat: "Turn off the useless BS, please!" switch? -
umm, you can turn off MSN Today, theres no adverts (ok bar1) in the conversation window at all, you can turn off nudges and winks. and why are pornographic display pics inappropiate, if your friends feel the desire to express themselves using porn well then thats their choice, you can turn that off to.

Just contradicted yourself there

You can? Good!

I'm not a horny teenager

But it turns it off for everyone though, that's the problem.
The MSN Messenger guys need to realise that people (especilly teeneyboppers) don't use the software the way it's meant to be. Display pictures are meant for photos of that person's face or something that you can identify them by... instead all the "boys" put up pictures of cars or lesbians and the girls put up stupid photos.
And I still want to know why emoticons are parsed in display names and why we can't define our own name-overrides in any of the official clients.
-
why are display pictures meant to be of that persons face or something to identify them with? who says it's meant for that.
My friend has a different avril lavigne pic for each day of the year and cycles through them constantly. why should my face be all over MSN, i might wish to put an ipod up one week, the next week a PSp, but i'm a gadget guy, others might wish for a mazda MX5 or a Volvo C70, others might want nipple clamps and handcuffs. no one has ever specified what images can be used. just because you don't like them doesn't mean we should bow down to you and put our faces on MSN -

Because all the tech demos and HCI prototypes of MSN Messenger 6 I saw showed the feature to be used like that.
It's another analogous case of "Manually underlining to create headings"
-
now you're just being stupid
-
I fully agree with Jaz.
And yeah, W3bbo really gives the good example isn't he
, just look at his "display picture" here on Channel9 !!! -
Okay... I've changed it now, happy?

-
NOOOOO, I'm not happy, now my comment doesn't make sense anymore.
So for anyone reading this:

Or you could have just asked me for me to upload it?
'tis here:

Btw, Charles... can you get it so that the "bad word filter" doesn't affect URIs? -
Why can't I change their contact information to add personal notes?
At the least allow me to change their identity name. I know this is something people can change themselves; however, I may want to remember them as "Boss" or "Sister", as opposed to whatever they want.
Less work for me, more for the computer is good. Not the other way around.
Other than that... can I remove the tabs? The ad at the bottom? Takes up alot of space. Can I upgrade to a premium version and do so? No? Why not? -

Try Trillian then

So no-one else around here runs Messenger Plus to customize MSN Messenger? C'mon guys, get with the program already...
-
I did before they started bundling spyware, now I don't trust the producer at all. He is just a complete sellout who knows how else he has sold out.
PS- As a MS employee shouldn't you be telling us that modifying MSN Msg with an external program is wrong?
-
"What I'm listening to" is OK, but nudges and winks just beg to be shut off. Still can't get Audio conversation working behind my router, even though Messenger detects UPnP correctly, and Skype works.
Is anyone still working on Three Degrees? It has some cool stuff I want to have in MSN Messenger.
