What does this offer over the browser that ships with iPhone? I thought the iPhone had a good browser already.

An awkward, non-native user experience and crappy, pre-iPhone mobile versions of websites?
Seriously... tried this one out and it's utter crap. I think Apple approved this one just so they'd have something to point to when they say porting apps between platforms is bad.

Nope, Opera Mini is better. Watch this video.

I really was thinking it was NOT going to get approved because
(1) ***especially*** its UI interaction is totally different from iPhone's standard
(2) it duplicates the existing iPhone functionality.
Now, Google Voice needs to get approved and Hell will truly freezes over!

I use Opera Mini on my PDA and even over G Wifi it's much faster than PIE or Opera Mobile, the UI is also a lot better than Windows Mobile's.

I wonder if Apple were scared of the EU coming after them? It would be about time, tbh.

Does apple just use a Magic 8 ball to determine what apps get approved? I swear if they are going to use a draconian approval process you would think they would be at least consistant with it. It seems like their criteria changes daily. It is a mystery to me why developers are putting up with it. I would hate to slave away developing an app just for Apple to say no.

Is Opera Mini the version that uses a proxy to pre-render the html?
So all that happens on the client side is displaying the page content as an image and tracking mouse/keyboard action?
So essentially its like running a browser on another machine via RDP/VNC, which means that there is no JavaScript interpreter in the client browser itself.
So they manage to work around the no script interpretation/programable code rule in the SDK.

I'm guessing you could potentially have flash player support through that then?

Mmm. Interesting idea.
