i must have some bad luck in selecting drives. just had a second system drive crap out on me with "read element failure". i hope the next version of home server has the ability to regenerate the system drive from a boot disk and data from storage drives.

I think WHS makers should really use a small flash drive for the system drive. Preferably integrated to the motherboard. You only need a few Gb. Apparently you can't even replace the system drive on WHS without a lot of pain.

it isnt that bad to reinstall the OS on a new drive. i have a batchfile that copies all the data back to the drive pool. just takes forever.

Yes but should you have to reinstall? Aside from consuming time and effort, it must be hard on systems without any graphical output. And can involve tricks without an optical drive.

with the versions from HP and other places that make home servers. but i went and purchased a copy and built my own out of a system i put together. many more USB ports than a person would usually get.

or you could use an SSD
