Huh? Is that the quietest Microsoft product launch ever or what?

Office 2007 was this big update so I can see that nobody is going to get excited about 2010 but it's like absolutely no effort was put into telling people of it's existence at all.

Microsoft doesn't give Office free to students anywhere, the best you can hope for is a nice discount only if your university has arranged it already.

 

You can get Office Visio and Project on MSDN-AA, however.

I've seen office 2007 for $60 for students though. I got mine for free from the This Week On Channel 9 guys. I've only used it once but it was nice of them to give it to me Smiley

No unfortunately Office 2010 doesn't work under Wine yet.

I think a few universities in Hong Kong has made agreement with Microsoft here, so that they can pay an annual fee to allow all of their students and staffs download and use MS Office without paying additional charge.

 

The fee is included in the tutition fees and you have to pay it whether you already own legal copy of MS Office or not. My classmates used to call it "Microsoft Tax" although it actually mean another thing.

 

Regarding MS Visio and Project, it always make me wonder why my MSDN Professional subscription doesn't include MS Project if it can include Visio. Doesn't MS Project look more like a development related application than Visio (which you can use to draw floor plans and more)?

Im not sure in US, but its probably sometime in April or May..

I have to pay a technology fee whether I like it or not and that fee covers a Microsoft Office license. I already paid for it, although I prefer not to think that I did.

If Office was that important to you then you would have been searching for info and  watching the blogs.

 

the type of people that buy Office (i.e. big companies) dont react to software releases like Visual Studio or Windows.

 

Office 2010 is like a service release a la Windows 7, so you will enjoy using it if you use office 2007 frequently.

Office 2007 is the only version of Office I can say was at least a bit exciting because of how much it had changed (for the better in my opinion) and MS Office is still the best office suite out there no matter how many people try and copy it but yeah, Office 2010 really doesn't seem like it's worthy of any kind of hype.
