Can anyone recommend a program to recover deleted data from a Windows ME machine? One of my family have had their new laptop stolen, and doesn't have any backups. However the data use to be on an old laptop they still have.

PC Inspector may work for you. Not tried it myself though.

I've used Active@ Undelete in the past, and it's got me out of a few scrapes.
I think you can download a trial version to see if it'll find your file before you buy it, which is nice. -
Recover4All is fantastic! My boss went all the way home to get this after I..umm..6 months worth of work evaporated off of my machine from a stupidly pressed shift-delete. I got everything back plus more. The test has a size limit but the full is well worth it.
Also worth mentioning is MediaRecover in case you delete/format you flash media. -
For me Norton Disk Doctor has always been the only way to go.
