That is sweet. I don't mind it being released later since it's all about the extra features, right?
I hope it has some features like ad removal (well they aren't much for ads but those litle icons linking to places where I can buy music) I can't think of any good features right now, but I hope they remove the ability of WMAs to be coded to permenatly change the language of WMP.

I vote 10 out of 10 to Microsoft for this.

I doubt that it's going to cost 20$ per WMP. Don't forget that WMP is included with Windows, is MS losing money on Windows?

WMP10 already includes an MP3 Ripping codec, but it is horrid. I use the Intervideo system instead, plus I also get DVD playback to boot.

Doesn't matter. People will start this antitrust crap again, because Cyberlink, Intervideo and whoever else is left, will make losses because their sales are impacted by this.

For MPEG-2 decoding products in hardware or software (such as those found in set-top boxes, DVD players and computers equipped with MPEG-2 decode units), the royalty is US $2.50 from January 1, 2002 and $4.00/unit before January 1, 2002. (Sections 2.2 and 3.1.1).

more than likely they're breaking the law, like many chinese DVD players, just cause it's FOSS doesn't mean it's not breaking the law

Why on earth would you want that?
On more than one occasion, I found myself needing WMP on a server, to be able to access some content or use server applications that rely on it...
And even if you never use it, it doesn't sit in the way (takes virtually no diskspace)!
Your request is the same as saying that for example calc.exe should be removed from a server...

Isn't Microsoft a member of the DVD Consortium now so they can package MPEG-2 with Longhorn?

I've never heard of any Chinese software companies being punished for including the MPEG-2 codec in their products.

Hello i'm hoping that WMP 11 will rip the FULL QUALITY of (20BIT HDCD encoded CD's)
Because as of now when you setup WMP 10 to encode in WMA (LOSSLESS codec) when you rip an (HDCD) the file is DOWN SAMPLED to 16BIT which to me IS LOSSEY.Do you know if they are going to UPGRADE their ripping tools?
For example the name of the new codec would be(WMA 10 LOSSLESS HDCD encoder)I also understand that older CD's are NOT HDCD's so the playres ripping tool will rip it in 16BIT but if i put in a HDCD it should AUTOMATICALY rip in FULL 20BIT.Then when i right click on a (HDCD) file thats playing & go to properties under (AUDIO CODEC) it should say (Windows Media Audio 10 Lossless
VBR Quality 100, 44 kHz, 2 channel 20 bit 2-pass VBR)
Also when an HDCD file is playing it should DISPLAY something like (HDCD FILE PLAYING).

Chinese companies can do what they want because the laws only apply in the US - sometimes the EU/etc.

The lowest significant bit will be used by HDCD to carry a control stream, that toggles a bunch of filter and dynamics compression option in a HDCD decoder. It would be nice to see more formats in WMP to rip to. For now, you can use dbPowerAMP to do rip CDs in Windows Media Audio 9 Professional 24-bit if you also get the Windows Media 9.1 codec pack.

I'd mainly like to see more format support and more library organization options.
