What program do you guys use? I get the feeling it's not the VS editor...

(I read that thing on Photoshop / GIFGear or something?)

It's evolved beyond simple slapstick and OT humour, more towards "dry humour" and "british humour".

I have looked a few times and found that the only good ones cost money.

sure you can find a bunch of examples of code for iconeditors that are not finished...

but I have only seen one or two completd tools.
like the one I posted about before.

There's a free Photoshop plugin that will convert to .ico for you.

I have no Photoshop.

Command line, but it works fine.

Yawn, seen it. GUI version's crap too. And I don't recall ever getting it to work.

Edit: there's also a GUI frontend, but I've never used it.

They use Photoshop CS on Macintosh computers to make their icons, at least thats how they made the icons and visuals in Windows 95 and I doubt much has changed.  They may now be using an beta version of Vista with Paint .NET
