I set up an area on the Wiki to list anyone that wants to share whether or not they are attending PDC 2005.

I dunno.. Maybe some of us Niners might want to get together? Do they have a Dunkin Donuts near the convention center?

Me and my wife are going. She wants to go since I told her what a great time I had at the 2003 PDC and since I went to MacWorld with her. Her being in Graphic design she wants to see what Microsoft is doing in the new platform for people like her. just out of curiosity tho, is there going to be any demo's regarding Acrylic or any of the multimedia capabilities of Longhorn.

I might be there.

I arrive in LA on the Friday evening but am going to see friends in San Diego for the weekend, back in LA for a pre-conf workshop on the Monday and then PDC itself. Returning to London on the Sunday.
I think Charles mentioned there would be some sort of Channel 9 meet. -
I just saw this thread was about to fall off the first page, so in an effort to help organize Niners getting together at PDC, this thread is now officially Sticky.
Looking forward to seeing those of you at PDC! -
adam... if you get time could you post your xaml work file - along with your included file? ( the one of c9 guy)

Well, I just got into town about an hour ago
Took a look around, see which way the wind blow
Where the little girls in their Hollywood bungalows
Are you a lucky little lady in the City of Light
Or just another lost angel...City of Night
City of Night, City of Night, City of Night, woo, c'mon
L.A. Woman, L.A. Woman
L.A. Woman Sunday afternoon
L.A. Woman Sunday afternoon
L.A. Woman Sunday afternoon
Drive thru your suburbs
Into your blues, into your blues, yeah
Into your blue-blue Blues
Into your blues, ohh, yeah
I see your hair is burnin'
Hills are filled with fire
If they say I never loved you
You know they are a liar
Drivin' down your freeways
Midnite alleys roam
Cops in cars, the topless bars
Never saw a woman...
So alone, so alone
So alone, so alone
Motel Money Murder Madness
Let's change the mood from glad to sadness
Mr. Mojo Risin', Mr. Mojo Risin'
Mr. Mojo Risin', Mr. Mojo Risin'
Got to keep on risin'
Mr. Mojo Risin', Mr. Mojo Risin'
Mojo Risin', gotta Mojo Risin'
Mr. Mojo Risin', gotta keep on risin'
Risin', risin'
Gone risin', risin'
I'm gone risin', risin'
I gotta risin', risin'
Well, risin', risin'
I gotta, wooo, yeah, risin'
Woah, ohh yeah
Well, I just got into town about an hour ago

L.A. Woman, your my woman
Little L.A. Woman, Little L.A. Woman

For private person and especially for a student like me, there is absolutely no way to be able to go there (except I sell my soul ...). This is especially sad, because since I am currently doing my master thesis (I hope thats what you call the "final university research project") on Avalon and Longhorn. Attending that conference would give my work a vast push forward. Gathering decent information on those topics is not really easy.
Well there is one tiny chance though: The channel9 contests .... -

I disagree with you bonk. I think you'll arguably be in one of the best positions to gather information on Avalon and Longhorn. While the rest of us are rushing around from one room to another, listening to sessions in "real time" you'll be able to view the inevitable webcast more efficiently, skipping those that prove not to live up to their session description, and with a good view of what's happening where some of us attending will be at the back of a very large room looking at ants in the distance.
Admittedly you won't get a chance to talk individually to key development staff, but how many of the 6000+ attendees actually get to do this anyway? If TechEd is representative very few (unless you're happy to miss a lot of sessions and wait in line).
Don't get me wrong. You'll miss a lot of fun and excitement (and lack of sleep!) and ability to talk face to face to your peers. if you get a chance to go to PDC you'll have a great time. But when it comes to getting important information about Avalon and Longhorn it will all be available on the web within hours of happening, and represents significant cost and time advantages over attending the event itself. -

Already now at the beginning of my research I have the feeling that I squeezed out the last bit of information from all possible sources in the internet on the topics I am interested in. I have worked my way through everything that is left over in the net from the pdc 2003. While doing that so many new questions arose.
I tend to think, that if I would have been at the pdc some of those questions would have been answered - be it because I could have asked the speaker or MS employee directly or be it because I would have heared the whole speech and didn't just have the slides. Also I have the impression that there will be information (and impulses for my work) at the PDC that wont make its way to the internet.
Lastly I must say that I have made very positive experiences with the few conferences I was able to attend. If it was a good conference I always took a lot of value home (apart from the "having a great time"-fun aspect). Its one thing to be there and its a completely other thing to listen to people who have been there talking about it.

Bonkers I agree with Irascian, the PDC sessions will find their way on to the net.
Do you read blogs? There is new stuff everyday, see:
Marquee de Sells: Chris's insight outlet
Do you know much about XAML or SVG? If not channel9 is a good place to ask.
The PDC is about community, start a blog, get to know people in the community, we're learning new stuff everyday, if you want to know something you only have to ask. -

Do you mean the slides of the PDC sessions? Or will there be some podcasting or videos of all the sessions?
eagle wrote:
Of course I do. Blogs are the most important source for new info on Longhorn/Avalon (and of course channel9). My list of explicit active Avalon bloggers has currently 19 entries, maybe I should post the opml and ask you if I missed someone. I will do that tomorrow.

I have found that the winfx newsgroups are a good place to ask too. I must be carefull to not flood with to many questions though ...

Yes, slides with audio....the TechEd sessions are up, if you had been reading the right blogs you would have found them by now...
Have you seen the Grok Talks? Grok this -

I know about those groktalks (the teched ones are slighly out of my current focus there's only a single video on avalon wich also stayed very basic). Eagle, are you hinting that the PDC sessions will be groked? -
Sorry ladies you won't get to meet Steve. I can't make it.

Hit me! Sir, you have 20. HIT ME DANG IT!

Scott & Scott did such a great job with the Grok Talks I hope many more will be produced and as all the RD's will be at the PDC that should happen.
There will be Webcasts, sessions will go online and there will be a DVD.
Maybe the C9 Team can get some extra DVD's and share them with C9'ers in far off lands.
