Is MS throwing their rep down the toilet by softening the spyware detection rules?

I'd like to draw people's attention to this blog article here http://www.edbott.com/weblog/archives/000844.html

It talks about how MS is softening the rules of detection of spyware in their MS Antispy prog.

It is believed to be the case because of MS buying Claria.

MS did a good job in building confidence in their brand by having this product, now are they throwing this rep down the toilet?

To sum it up they have "publicly" excused themselves from the Claria deal.

My own feeling is there are a lot of smoke and mirrors at the moment.

Only by aggressively taking on both past and present Spyware/Adware vendors will they regain trust. And saying that these guys are welcome to contribute to the Anti-Spyware Consortium is just bull.
