Came to know from LongZheng (istartedsomething) blog that new AOE is available.

Apart from Star Craft I think AOE is for me is one of the better ( comparatively simpler ) RTS games around ...  the best part is that the new version is completely free for all .... ( though some advanced packs may need to be purchased ) ...

Also unlike normal MS offerings .. this does not seem to be US only

I hope they fixed it....   i had a beta key but never got it to work, some problem with the windows live gaming profile crap.... it kept telling me to create a profile and then not working.

@figuerres: I have already downloaded the installer .. but before gameplay start it seems to downloading a large patch file ... waiting for it to finish ... will try a bit later ...

i am not sure if the problem i had was the game or the live gaming stuff.

It was fun during the beta. Kind of lost interest after a while, but I could see myself picking it up again. The free to play thing helps. Also, massive rush of nostalgia.

finally out. Weeee.

I cant get past "Downloading your profile" personally.

I remember having problems getting my account setup for the beta as well and almost gave up. Never a dull moment when Windows Live ID is involved.

The game itself was pretty fun and definitely had a classic AoE vibe to it. I'll be playing around with the release version though I'm not likely to spend anything in the cash shop.

Anyway, the game is quite fun. Sadly I got some equipment that seems only paid member can use. Arrr.

Yeah site is back up. Geez...5 minutes to download, 10 to install and now it's updating...I've watched two episodes of Star Trek: Voyager and it's still 2/3 the way through the update =(

It is not really updating. The game was never fully downloaded to begin with.

What a great game, its like a cross of AoE, Civ and Wow. 

Those expansions are a little too pricey if you ask me so I'll just enjoy what I can out of it. 

Definitely worth a play though

Why doesn't MS makes good products but overlooks the ease of setup and use ...

My Experience :

After installation and large patch download .. a window form opens where u press play ... AOE requires Games for Windows Login for it work .. but still in this window it does not indicate the same ... so the heavy graphical AOE  starts ... when u anticipate u can start playing ... it tells you it requires games for Games for windows login ... whoever designed the password box in that screen should be given lesson in UI design ... the password box is box with fixed 6 * characters .. irrespective how many digits ur passwords is it does not move and there is no feedback whether u entered password .. any way after entering password .. it suddenly says that you require serial number ... and there is no easy way from within the game to obtain it .. now you need to exit AOE and start Games for Windows ...

In Games for for Windows there is no easy place to indicate where to get serial number ... after trials i decided to click on download for AOE .. which thankfully detected that i had AOE already installed ... then it shows a list that AOE is installed but still no way to tell where to get Serial ... bcos by defaul the listing hides the Ger Serial button ... only when u expand u can see the button and get serial number ...

I though may be I will make things easier and hence logged into Games for Windows ( with remember username and password option) and pressed play on AOE list .. but again the intermediate window comes and again i need to press play ... after that though i am already logged into Games for Windows - AOE again requires me to login to Games for Windows from within AOE .. and then only gives option to key in serial number ...   

Why AOE team .. why ?
