Thursday, American Idol cut 43 hopeful guys down to 20 semifinalists.

Wait, make that 28.

A last-minute twist on the Thursday's episode revealed that the last semifinalist cuts won't be made until next week, after the women have had their turn in the spotlight.

But we've seen a few that we can say are probably safe.

Chief among them: Charlie Askew, the wild-haired, self-admittedly socially awkward kid, who seems to be the kind of quirky fast learner that thrives in the early performance rounds each year. Askew gave a self-effacing intro to his version of Gotye's Somebody That I Used to Know, then showed a level of poise and presence that turns awkward kids into stars. And when Nicki Minaj started talking to him, he didn't sound awkward at all. 

Charlie is pretty freaking awesome. Seriously, how you don't just explode out of pride is beyond me

How about some forewarning next time.  I flipped by the channel last night just as the ending credits were rolling.  Missed it.
