The hardware/software section of the on campus Company store is FTE only. However there are two Microsoft stores in Bellevue/Seattle.

12-18 months? Zune? Kin? WP7? Microsoft's track record on devices isn't that great and PC sales are down. Let's be fair and say 36 - 48 months.

I can't wait to see how Ballmer counts his 600 million W8 sales... I'm sure they'll all be based on "reality".

In the end, it's better for Microsoft that Microsoft kills Windows-- or at least the classic sense of it --than someone else.

I think he'll also count software assurance renewals and the like even if the customer decides to stick with W7. Winning!

BTW, Apple just did something really stupid (again). Microsoft has a chance because of it but I think it's kind of sad that in order for Microsoft to be successful someone else has to fail first.

No offense to him, but I think most people realize that Ballmer lives in a plane that is orthogonal to reality.

I'm curious. What did Apple do that was stupid this time?

The lack of wireless charging, the lack of NFC, the cables and adapter debacle, or something else?

Apple took the look and feel of a critically acclaimed competitive phone and created something so repulsive that it damages the original.

Sadly we stupid humans haven't caught on because the iPhone5 is selling out everywhere (more counting shenanigans?). I wonder how much of those sales are based on the "cool" factor, customer satisfaction, and other intangibles and how many people stick with the iPhone because of an investment in the Apple eco system (including iTunes purchases). If the latter is a significant factor then Microsoft is going to have a hard time brining people over to WP8 and WinRT devices. I know on the later the big selling point is that you can get work done but that's going to be limited to MS Office or new Windows Store apps that fit the bill of "work".

Doubtful. AT&T are reporting that this the fastest selling iPhone yet. I imagine their figures are independent of Apple's.

Well, customer satisfaction is a valid measure when deciding on your next phone purchase. The ecosystem will play a big part in the decision. But then there are other things such as performance and battery life.

Yes, the latter will be quite significant, but not insurmountable.  All of iTunes tracks are AAC and DRM-free. They can be moved without too much effort. If you're talking about films and TV shows, then things become a little more complicated.

Mmm. Apple has just announced 2million sales in the first 24 hours. Double that of the iPhone 4S. If folk are waiting for the Apple stumble, I'm not sure this is it.

That's pretty much what the "Super" in Super AMOLED is about. This technology came out in the first commercially-available product (Samsung Wave) back in 2010.

Available on Android devices in 2011. Heck, even Windows Phones had LTE before the iPhone.

"Designed by Apple" meaning implemented from an architecture designed by ARM and manufactured by Samsung (or some other contract manufacturer).

There's the less important stuff like the battery, the camera, twisting the carriers' arms to allow Facetime over the networks. 

That was a carrier imposed limitation, and it will still exist for some carriers. If Apple had to do more than changing a #define constant to 1 to enable this, then they're some pretty lame programmers to begin with. Otherwise, it's still nothing to pat themselves on the back about.

But I take your point, on the surface, not much has changed.
