In additional to the $0 bill, it also contain things like storage capacity and CPU quota usage that help you have rough idea on whether you're nearly exceed your quota, so you can either reduce your usage or buy some quota.

Students do get MSDNAA but I've never seen cloud usage offered free there either.

Usually te school has plenty of ict means at their disposal.

If it hasn't then you could buy a domain name, put the cname record on the current instance and create a new trail in 90 days and alter cname. then you could keep it free for a bit longer.

Or you can write your local Microsoft rep. They are usually quite happy to help for a bit of press coverage.

It's more like poker in that it's a game of statistical strategy.  You can throw more than just rock, paper, and scissors, there are 100 dynamite and unlimited water balloons to throw.  Timing when you do this will help you win or lose a match.

One of the things you can do, also, is know who your opponent is and adjust your strategy appropriately.  If they happen to follow a pattern, you can adjust to counteract their pattern.
