Legal limitations? Certainly in the UK you may only record a call without the other party's permission in certain circumstances (http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/archive/oftel/consumer/advice/faqs/prvfaq3.htm).

It wouldn't surprise me if US law, for instance, was far stricter.
